I would say that you just don't publish the criteria specifics. That way it leaves some room for discretion and so someone wouldn't just run up the min posts and wait.

I initially voted no, then I changed to maybe, then I changed to yes, now I'm back to maybe.
I wonder if TD would be less active if the more social aspect of our interaction was on a hidden/private board?
And scruff brought up a question I've been meaning to ask - anyone on Facebook?
Ruska tea this morning and some keemun in my cup right now. My throat has been swollen the past few days so I'm drinking lots and lots of tea.

Since Adagio Teas graciously hosts this forum I think moving to facebook would not be in their best interests.
Anyone else have thoughts on that? Does Facebook have a good tea appreciation fan group?

I think it's a good idea. I think of the 'LA Trip' thread, and think of the fact that it's announcing to the world at large where those folks will be and when. Since you never know what kind of creepy people are out there (or worse yet if you do know exactly what kind of creepy people are out there), it would be good to give members a place to be able to post things without revealing it to the world at large.

Voted not a good idea. Although I quite frankly don't care that much because I probably wouldn't participate because:
• simply don't have time for that
• "private forum" sounds too elitist to me – maybe that's not the intention, dunno? but to me it seems a bit off putting.
Anyway that's just my opinion.

I agree ABx, the LA Trip post is a great example. I think when I first read about this I was confused about the posting aspect. But now reading the discussions here I think I understand the concept better.
It seems to just be a more secure or shall I say less blatant area to post pictures or locations.
No one has to post anything personal they don't want to. But let's be open to the idea of it, so those who want to can.
It is not a "private" forum per se. When you met the time/post criteria you are in if you choose to be. Simple as that.

Agree, Agree, Agree!!!!! Just took some of us longer to understand the concept
Chip explained! According to his posts, this is exactly what he wants for the forum and her members! An open mind is a good thing

After pondering this a bit, my suggestion would be:
1. Create the forum and populate it with current active members with fairly high post counts and length of membership. Allow a length of time to pass so that this forum develops a base of protocols, manners, etc.
2. This forum software allows this type of forum to remain hidden from the general populace so folks won't wonder why they can't see anything in that forum.
3. Determine the criteria for access. I'd keep the length of membership and count moderately high (wouldn't hurt my feelings if I didn't qualify for a while!).
4. At the pre-determined criteria, the forum would become visible to the members when they log in to the general forum. Perhaps a PM welcoming the "new" member to the TeaHouse could be generated explaining the house rules.
5. One of the "rules" would need to be that what's discussed in the TeaHouse stays in the TeaHouse! Also, there would be no reference to the TeaHouse in the general forum and no "meet me in the TeaHouse" type messages. These would of necessity need to be moderated from the general forum.
Just my $.02 worth since I'm a member of the Illuminati on another forum. The Teahouse would, by definition, not be a leadership hang out though by default the folks eligible would tend to perform the functions of leadership. Forums are peculiar beasts and each one has it's own personality!

Ah my glorious Ippodo order finally dropped in. I can't wait to try some of this stuff out. I love the Japanese style of gift wrap, it's so much prettier in my opinion than American.

Mine is scheduled to arrive tomorrow morning. I hope I will be home to sign for it or I will have to wait next week to be able to pick it up at the post office.

Ok that's just creepy man. Mine is almost the exact same. Except that yours has the shin shun where mine doesn't since it wasn't out the day I ordered, I also have the Kinmo-no-mukashi, uji shimizu and genmai. (Oh and a present for a friend).
But everything else is the same.

I don't know if you have noticed, but your avatars are also quite similar.
