I haven't had any Korean tea, but would try it in the future.
Currently rejoicing in the fact that this is the first day in over a week I haven't felt sick or dizzy, and contemplating what to drink next.
Assam Harmutty this morning with breakfast--not too malty, but nice.
It is not really a yellow color but rather, it is an amber color. You can see it here:Shelob wrote:Looks like the perfect oolong for your beautiful yellow butterfly gaiwan posted in the contestVictoria wrote: I hope you got the "yellow" oolong tea.
The tea I got form Hankook on Saturday is definitely the best Korean tea I have had to date. Quite enjoyable. What color is the liquer?
Currently in my cup jasmine Tai Mu Long Zbu!![]()

Interesting Korean tea discussion today! Victoria, I actually did order the "yellow," the only one that appeared to come from Korea. It comes in a Japanese tin though, at least it looks like the same manufacturer of several Japanese tins I have. Chigaraok Yellow Tea I am wondering if it is a different grade than some of the others.
I will be receiving some samples of both green, oolong, and herbal ... including Kyul Myeong Tea which they describe as, "A mild tea that has quietly distinguished itself in popularity, it is frequently drunk in households as an alternative to barely tea, or brewed more intensely to be served to guests." More grain "tea", woohoo

I ordered mine on 1/2 with just the standard $4 shipping (and no samples). Maybe they were closed and didn't tell anyone? I did notice that something popped up recently on their site about being closed until Feb for Chinese New Year but I don't know when that started - though I do wonder if it started around Christmas with the length of time it took them to get my order together... and respond to my inquiries.Victoria wrote:I got mine yesterday too - may I asked when you placed the order? I placed mine on Jan 1, and paid $14 for express. It took 25 days and I'm not too happy about that. Not to mention they used to always send samples. I haven't gotten a sample in my last 3 orders now. Sorry to say, but I am done with them.auggy wrote:My Teacuppa order came in yesterday, so that was a nice surprise. I'm drinking their barley oolong right now - and when they say it tastes like sweet corn, they aren't kidding!

It's different - I like it. Though the smell of the dry leaves makes me think of Nestle Crunch bars - not a bad thing!Chip wrote:Now that is something I never thought of. Barley oolong.

I thought I was posting this here earlier, but apparently I put it in the wrong thread!
For those wondering about Korean greens, they tend to be light and creamy in flavor. Probably more like Chinese greens, but they sometimes taste similar to sencha. At least, that's what I remember.
Here's a link to all my Korean tea reviews, if anyone is interested: http://www.teanerd.com/search/label/Korea.
Also, Salsero, I sent you some matcha and some of the Chigarok Hwang-cha that has been mentioned a couple times here. I don't think I put any fancy labels in there, but they're fairly easy to distinguish.

Tsk tsk, I ordered it, not to rub it in. Maybe next time.Shelob wrote:Chip, wish I would've known you were ordering, we could've piggybacked our ordersChip wrote:Interesting Korean tea discussion today! Forgot to mention above, I blended two really incredible on their own right Gyokuro. 2 grams of Kame from O-Cha and 2 grams of the "sweetest gyokuro" I ever had from Sal. 4 grams total and 2 ounces of water!
This was a super nice blend, bringing the best of each to the cup, still very deeeep like the Kame, and still very sweeeet like Sal's. An exceptional session.

UMMMM that blend sounds 'deliciously' delightful

.
Doesn't sound like any oolong I've heard of. I was wondering if it was a white or a green? Does it taste like an oolong?Shelob wrote:I was told it is an oolong and that is what was written on the label, maybe I mispelled it???? I'll go check again. Maybe should be Bai? My friend gave me a sample to try....... guess I need to ask more questions.Victoria wrote:

Nice review of the Hwang Cha "Yellow" tea. Nice pics too! I have that same chataku from Hankook, and that looks like the new fishy cup I just got at WHF. Looks like I am retracing your steps!scruffmcgruff wrote: Here's a link to all my Korean tea reviews, if anyone is interested: http://www.teanerd.com/search/label/Korea.
