I change mine out occasionally just for fun. None has any particular meaning except that most of them are tea-related. I just changed mine today, in fact. I was looking through some old images on my computer and found this one that my daughter drew of me when she was about four.
Had some Keemun Rhapsody this morning, but now am at work and forgot to bring water, so I won't have any more tea until I get home later.

Thanks Jazz, I will definitely check that out!jazz88 wrote: @ chip I think Ando Horoshige has some stunning prints of Mt Fuji and their graphic nature would be well suited for an avatar.
And I thought it was a Geeber original.geeber1 wrote:found this one that my daughter drew of me when she was about four.

Matcha Tenkei Hana from Yuuki-Cha with my wife was up next in another "new old" chawan. This one is a 30ish year old Hagi.

Beautiful saretta!!! Lovely purple!! The only claim to Spring so far around here
was a few camellias, now sadly past, and my purple bougainvillea.
That is looking rather pink!
Wow! Beautifull bouganvillea... I will see it in bloom only past july here!
I knew you would have noticed my purple crocus!! Now I am waiting for my purple tulips... I cant stop searching for purple in nature!
Finally I am having some good tea at the end of the day. It is an autumnal Darjeeling :Rose d'Himalaya from Arya estate (Mariage Frères)
Nice weekend to everyone

I have always admired birds of prey. Just something about those highly refined senses and superior agility
Once I get a bit older and get this life thing figured out, I'm hoping to have a nice piece of land so I can get into falconry. My avatar is a picture of a falcon strafing the water, which I think looks pretty friggen awesome.
Enjoying a cup of Moroccan Mint now, though I think I'll brew some silver needle next.

Mine is of my dog, which probably goes without saying. It's probably time for me to change it. I like variety.
Edit: Ta-da! Change complete. Now it is a shot of me during a penguin feed at the zoo, where I volunteer. We're required to wear the bulky coats, and alas, they aren't flattering to anyone!

My avatars tend to be pieces of pictures that I have taken of my tea and tea wares. Currently, it is a nice shot of my rice porcelain gaiwan with two of the matching cups filled with a lovely oolong, though I don't remember exactly which one. My previous avatars have been my little green cup with a lilac and the really nifty infuser cup that was in the box pass. Hopefully this spring, I will have a shot of some of the pretty flowers with other pieces of tea ware.
Currently in my cup is Assam with rose petals that was a gift from a friend. It is surprisingly tasty. The maltiness of the Assam contrasts very nicely to the sweet floweriness of the rose.

My avie is one of the 36 Views of Mt. Fuji, the famous ukiyo-e series. I'll probably end up cycling through the whole series. I love Mt. Fuji!Chip wrote:My avie is me, I am Mt. Fuji! Well, maybe not, but Fuji is the home to my TeaCave, well, maybe not. But it has been Mt. Fuji for around 2 years. I change it to other shots of Fuji periodically, and generally with tea fields. Strange how a mountain can have a certain appeal to me.
Perhaps because I have always thought about climbing mountains, like Everest? Fortunately, I value my toes too much and lack the 40,000 USD required to make it so.
I really like that cup. It looks perfectly sized and shaped. I was about to buy it, but unfortunately it sold out. That's a sweet gaiwan too!Salsero wrote:It's the cup I drink from more frequently than any other.
Thanks for clarifying your avatar, bronzebed--I love it but had no idea it was a chinchilla. Now I know what that alert and slightly sassy looking creature is! My avatar is perhaps more mystifying--it's just a photograph that I saw recently and liked, by Abelardo Morell. If I were to try to justify selecting it as an avatar for a forum on tea, I'd say that the scene of a porcelain object on a table is at least sort of relevant to the consumption of tea. But really I just find the photograph weirdly compelling. The one square inch version doesn't do it justice.

My leaping carp cup is still available at Enjoying Tea for the premium price of $1.98. The gaiwan is $4.50 plus shipping from China at Yunnan Sourcing.JustinW wrote: I really like that cup ... That's a sweet gaiwan too!
