(First let me say...I was out of town for a few days and I come back to find all these awesome reviews and pictures...thanks so much everyone!!!!)
Mmmmmmm, sincha from o-cha is here...and just in time...I was thinking about what green to brew and DH walked in and said "you've got a package"...lucky me!!!
I ordered YM (of course) and Fukamushi Supreme.
I already broke open the YM. Yummy...I didn't get the citrus end notes like last year, but it is still awesome! The color is amazing...like a nuclear glow!!!
Here is a picture of my third steep:

Ahhhh, just one more reason why spring is so welcome!!!
Live well,

Guys...
Where the hell is my shincha?
I've been drinking bancha for the past couple days now... day after day. This isn't right.
Two possibilities:
It just hasn't arrived yet (that's a plausible theory
).
Or...
There's a shincha monster on the loose that makes the cookie monster look like a saint who feeds hungry children.
Who among you is this shincha monster who travels the globe pursuing mailboxes that haven't been checked yet by their host? You cunningly open them a few minutes after the tea has been planted, take the cha out, and go on your merry way.
You will be found. And when you are, what will become of you can not even be uttered in this forum, as I would be officially banned.
I will say no more...

Glad to hear I'm not the only one.devites wrote:Yeah im still waiting for my YM and Fukamushi Supreme.
I ordered Fukamushi, YM and Sae Midori from O-Cha, Temomi and Hashiri from Sugimoto, and Yame Takumi from Zencha. So far Zencha's the only one who's come through.
Oh, the immense emotional poverty from only having one shincha!

Just wanted to take a second to give Kevin and O-Cha large props for how they handled a recent situation with my order.
Kevin emailed me on Friday telling me about a possible issue. Apparently, the person who ordered right after me is also named Brian, and they were moving very quickly to fill orders on time and there was a possibility that they sent his order to me by accident. If this was the case, then I could keep his order, and they would send me to rest of mine express mail for free. When my order arrived today, it was indeed the other Brian's order.
My order: Kirameki, YM
Other Brian's Order: Kirameki, Fukamushi Supreme, Kiri no Mori matcha, Yame Gyo
Kevin is sending out the YM to me today. I couldn't be happier with how he handled the situation and my new goodies to try. I'll have to invest in a chaiwan and chasen (from O-Cha now, of course), and I had some of the Fukamushi Supreme today which was excellent. Now that makes 400g of shincha >.<
So, the moral of the story is that I'm extremely impressed with O-Cha's service. I know most people here already know and love O-Cha, but if you're on the fence, please don't hesitate to try them -- you will definitely be satisfied.

My YM sincha came yesterday along with my new replacement potChip wrote:I think you need to up temp a bit for the first steep. 154* F seems a bit low and could level it off a bit. I think I was going with 160* F (71* C) in a preheated kyusu for the first steep.
Each sencha, each tea has ups and downs, but getting the YM from O-Cha for what will be the 4th year, I know it is generally a top notch sencha. 2008 was an incredible year for it while 2007 was down a bit. I am reserving judgement of course til I try it, but it is my fave for 3 years in a row even in the down year.
Thanks for sharing, Jack.

I brewed some this morning and loved it although I've been thinking I might try these parameters tomorrow-
This morning I used 4.2 grams (was trying for 4.0) 168F for 1 minute in a preheated pot. I think that I would like to try a lower temp. The tea was fantastic but seemed to develop a bitter edge as it cooled for my last few sips. I would like to try a bit less leaf and cooler water_ I think I will like it even more.
I am about to brew an Ocha tea bag and I'm interested to see what my taste buds have to say about this after having had the YM sincha.
Again big big thanks to Chip who suggested that I try reg YM and also suggested a super pot for brewing it which led me to try the YM sincha and now I've broken the surly bonds of earth and reach tea heaven
