Nice wares, everybody!
Olivierco, I especially like your chawan set...different, but similar!
Thanks for sharing the pictures!

this is a ash/slip tokkuri by robert fornell that i've been using as a sharing pitcher. this one's actually pictured on his site. the textures and variations in this piece are really mind blowing to me. i'm kinda obsessed with inspired "challenging" pieces...some may think it's ugly, i think it's interesting.
this tokkuri is saying farwell to tea tonight and from now on will only be used for sake. i wanted to post before it made the transition. the last three pics, sorry about the white balance, my lighting really sucked.

Great piece, SM! Yohen, changed by the firing. Reminds me of an extreme Bizen piece.
Rob (?) Fornell is going to be posting his own topic under TeawareArtisans subforum!!!!

“Take some more tea,” the March Hare said to Alice, very earnestly.
“I’ve had nothing yet,” Alice replied in an offended tone: “so I ca’n’t take more.”
“You mean you ca’n’t take less,” said the Hatter: “it’s very easy to take more than nothing.”

Cool, SF. This would be a great platform for Jay Strommen, imho.
Something "new" but old. Around 30 years old, but seemingly never used. Momiji is a fave teaware theme. This set seems so whimsical, how could I resist.
From Arita ...

The kyusu looks and feels and handles incredibly perfect. The taller height also makes it great for fukamushi. It has a ball shaped screen at the base of the spout.

The leaves seem to be floating, like helium filled balloons. The set is so festive, it makes me smile!

I love the shape and size of the cups, don't you? There is an ever so subtle constriction that feels "right" in the hand.

A tiny bonus, Fuji on the bottom of each piece.

PMing you ...TokyoB wrote:Chip, where do you find this great stuff? Ebay? Also, why is a tall kyusu good for fukamushi? or what is a tall, round kyusu suited for and what is a flatter shaped kyusu good for, in your opinion? Thanks!
The taller kyusu-s allow more/more rapid pouring before the leaf concentrates at the screen. I don't think it is a huge factor, but I have noticed taller kyusu work better for pouring. I did not make this up, BTW. When they began making fukamushi they also began to make taller kyusu to brew it.
The lower flatter kyusu-s are often made for lower temp teas like gyokuro. I am not quite buying into this 100% since the water is already cooled before pouring over the leaves, though I suppose the flatter kyusu could be used to hasten the cooling.

Thanks, and you are correct, it is Fukagawa, a very old producer of Arita wares.chamekke wrote:Very nice set, Chip! I love the momiji design.
Incidentally, the mark looks like Fukagawa.

You have got nearly as many cups as meDrax wrote: , and the cups will be a mixture for drinking tea, and for storing tea samples in my pumidor... I like these better than the cupcake cups I was using...

I thought I would be inviting my friends round to share tea with me- but they all demurred when they discovered there was no Alcohol involved.
Now I only by 2 or 3 of each new cup I buy!

Best wishes from Cheshire

Just received two wonderful boxes. One from our good pals at Adagio and another from Lin's.
Basic Adagio petite teapot for casual western brewing. Chicagopotters yunomi making a cameo appearance behind it.

Now for the good stuff...
Large Prosperity Pot (glazed).

(Finally got a good white balance on my camera...)

And another Prosperity Pot, but this one in Purion...

The interesting thing to note about the Purion is that it develops a wonderfully unique and interesting texture when wet I noticed.
And last but not least a small teacup. Has a wonderful feel to it.

(A few extra pictures on flickr photoset).

Currently brewing jasmine pearls out of the black one. The seal between pot and lid is really well done and the pour is nice and quick. Not too heavy, but doesn't feel light and cheap. The glaze is applied very even and clean. A really well made product.
I'm still deciding what type of tea I should brew in the Purion. From what I know it is like Yixing in that it should be used for a specific tea type alone. It will be either Pu or Black...
Oh the decision.
