I try not to collect things. My mother collects too many things to make it worthwhile to have more collections in the house. She has Snowbabies, Friar folk figurines, Jim Shore Collectibles, two cabinets worth of dolls, African Violets as well as other house plants, and what ever she can find that is related to West Highland White Terriers. Drives me crazy, especially since she also collects things for both my father and myself. As a result, I have a bunch of Star Wars Hallmark Ornaments and random mythical creature figurines. I tend to prefer more practical items like my tea cups, books, and fabric pieces that will one day be made into things when my sewing desk gets cleaned off.
Currently in my cup is asamushi sencha, which will accompany me on my plans to clean the house today.
I have been a halfhearted collector of different stuff at different times, from stamps to Legos to autographs of famous people. I have a lot of car magazines and books of all kinds, but I wouldn't call them collections, just unplanned amassments.
If I had unlimited wall space and funds, I would start a collection of maps. I'm a sucker for a good map, the older the better. I once came across an old world map from the 15th century, which had been part of a famous library in Spain. According to the seller, there was a very good chance that that very map had once been perused by Columbus himself, before his epic voyage - it had been accessible to him, and good maps were very scarce in his day. That's the kind of thing that sends chills down my spine.
Unfortunately, I was a student at the time, and could not even remotely afford the asking price of 1 fortune.
I suppose I'll have to start a money collection.

Fun topic!!!
Like olivierco, I do not "collect" anything, but it seems like our family has accumulated lots of stuff.
Anyone visiting my house might think we are rather fond of dog and cat hair, but it would be a stretch to say that we're "collecting" it
I don't even want anyone to get the idea that I collect tea ware; then (well-meaning) people will be giving me all sorts of fun teapots and then I'd have to find a place to put them...nope, don't even start that rumor!
So far today, a new favorite black blend (3 parts Assam and 1 part Ceylon Lumbini). Later I'm sure lots of iced tea!
Right now I've got to run off and so some more shopping for some of my "non-collection".
Have a great day, All,

My father is huge into cacti and succulents. As a small child I learned some really painful "lessons" about getting to close to them. The worst spines are the really soft ones that are impossible to get out..... I do love them still and yearn to live in the southwest. There is nothing more spectacular than the desert in bloom, trumps new england fall for me.

I am trying to start a book collection, anything military, tea or classic books such as The Prince and Candide. I am also a big fan of collecting military firearms. I just love em, so interesting to hold and shoot. just great fun, of course a cup of tea always works its way into range time.
have a good one all.
