It's raining pottery here in the PNW this week. I'll have pictures once the rain stops.

Those are beautiful tenuki, especially that first one. I'm glad the rain stopped!tenuki wrote:It's raining pottery here in the PNW this week. I'll have pictures once the rain stops.

And I wish our two cats had as good taste as your cat appears to possess...
Oh it's still raining, that was just the cat getting out of the rain. Let's just say I discovered Etsy, had a really active week on eBay, and found Kobo here in Seattle all at the same time....brianlavelle wrote: I'm glad the rain stopped!

That first one is a smaller teacup, just a bit larger than the typical gong fu cup I'm planning on using it for. $9 at Kobo... Second one is more chawan size, I plan on using it for daily matcha - was $12 at Kobo. Last one was is an anagama wood fired chawan beauty off of Etsy.

I especially like the glaze on the top piece, and the shape and color of the center piece.
BTW I am planning on starting an intro ceramics course this month... Looking forward to it.

Very very nice! Hmm... if I could have only one, I would take the third... although the first one is actually quite attractive... ah, who am I kidding, this is the world of hypotheticals. I'll take all threetenuki wrote:[edit] here are a couple of quick snapshots of what the cat drug in so far, way more on it's way[/edit]

This is actually a really good point.Pentox wrote:There's nothing wrong with "special occasion" china! It's all about having a whole range of teacups from the daily to the special!Salsero wrote:Oy, females!chamekke wrote:Don't you love "special occasion" china?
For many of my friends, sencha poured out of a kyusu and served in yunomi is both appropriate and welcome.
For others (especially older female relations), black tea prepared in a porcelain teapot and served in bone china is precisely what is called for. The tea reflects their tastes, and the vessels indicate a sense of occasion.
I have a soft spot for my English china teacups, even though I don't often use them. I inherited quite a few from my mother, and had to pare them down to a favourite half-dozen or so, due to sheer lack of space. The ones I kept are the ones that she and I both liked the most - the sunny yellow teacup, the one with the keyfret design on the edge, the cup with pink cherry blossoms. Those china teacups reflect the historical strata of my childhood and early adulthood, and as such, they're irreplaceable.

Yes, Chamekke's in a posting mood.
I feel like Santa Claus tonight... while all you East Coasters are snug in your bed, Chamekke is up late, thinking of surprises for you to discover when you wake up.
So, from the sublime of Tenuki's cups, we go to this slightly oddball yunomi that I found on eBay 'bout a year ago:

No idea who made it. The seller didn't know either, although he was hoping someone would enlighten him (probably so that the bidding would go higher). The chop mark on the bottom looks a little like an Rx sign, so if anyone here knows... no? Oh, well.
Anyhow, even though it's a little oddly shaped, and almost fluorescent in real life, I really like this yunomi. The colours always cheer me up, and it's a pleasure to hold. {whispers} I've even been known to use it for coffee...

Re: Female peeps
I've been wondering about those nice english china teacups recently. Aside from the very plain china that match china patterns, where is a good place to look for some? I'm interested in finding some for my teacup collection.chamekke wrote: I have a soft spot for my English china teacups, even though I don't often use them. Re: Female peeps
I collect English style teaware, both old & new. Hubby deals in antiques so I've been able to find several pieces by tagging along w/him to auctions, estate sales & other antique shops. There's also a lady from CA who makes & hand paints teaware. We carry her line in our store but she also has a website www.porcelaintreasures.com. You might also check ebay as I found some vintage dessert plates to match my cups & saucers.Pentox wrote: I've been wondering about those nice english china teacups recently.
