What are these foo dogs you two keep talking about? Dog-faced dragons or something?
**edit**
OK, I emailed Scott.
Well they look cool on your tea tray like tenuki's turtle.
Or in your teaware cabinet.

Well, Scott replied within the hour:
- Thanks for reminding me to re-list it. I had sold out and then just a few days ago got more.

You pour all the wastewater on them for good luck. I usually give mine a tiny sip of each tea as well.Salsero wrote:So... what do you do with them?

But does any hold significance that another may not, or do they all hold identical purpose for everyone? I've searched a bit and I've only found sparse lore on these intriguing creatures.tenuki wrote:You pour all the wastewater on them for good luck. Well they are not really dogs, but lions and are said to protect from evil spirits. I don't buy into all that, I'm just drawn to things Asian and like to collect them. These are 3" tall. I'll do another shot this weekend of them on my tray.

I've heard similar beasts called foo dogs, lion dogs, imaginary lions, and shishi, and have been told they protect from evil, bring good luck, etc. They're very often shown playing with a ball, and range from cute to very fierce.Victoria wrote:Well they are not really dogs, but lions and are said to protect from evil spirits.
