Re: NEW CHAPTER! Show Off Your Pots and Cups XV
Awwwww - cute! I haunt the local antique malls and thrift shops, but I've never seen that one before. Love the cups!
Re: NEW CHAPTER! Show Off Your Pots and Cups XV
I have a similar pot, the knob on the lid is a bit different.
No cups tho.

I have several pieces in that pattern, including some cups, a gaiwan, and a pot which is missing the lid. My cups are a different shape, but same pattern. They have translucent areas on them made by placement of grains of rice which disintegrate during the firing. I always just call them my "rice pattern" pieces, but I don't know more about them than this. I have some pure white rice pattern pieces too... they are very striking when filled with green tea and backlit.

Finally got around to taking some photos of my tea cup that my wife bought me for Christmas. Its hand-made Japanese and she got it from Postcard Teas in London.

Its got a sprinkling of these marks all around it:

They feel like they're positioned exactly where your fingers go when you hold it.

No tea tray
I haven't actually received this yet. This is the sellers picture, so I look forward to giving it a test run. The placing of rice in the clay before firing is giving me all kinds of ideas for my own work

This is a bronze lid and hollow handle tetsubin, it is old style, and I assume it is high end, judging from the "skin" of the iron.tenuki wrote:My antique tetsubin isn't a new purchase, but I can now use it again!!!

Does it have a nice white fur inside? How is the water from it, and for what types of teas will you use it.
Re: NEW CHAPTER! Show Off Your Pots and Cups XV
It's got both some white fur and a couple of muted rust patches. I had to clean off some weird patches inside and then soak it in tea for days to get the taste adjusted to my liking. I use it mostly for green tea (wonderful), but lately have been trying it out for some oolongs and puerh as well with good results. I've only had it for a couple years, and the last few I haven't been able to use it much due to my old stove being too random (sometimes it would just 'go red' for no reason). Looking forward to using it alot again.Oni wrote: Does it have a nice white fur inside? How is the water from it, and for what types of teas will you use it.

Fantastic "rice" set Greenwood! Really like the cups on this set. The pot sounds rather tiny?
Great gift from the wife, el Gringo!
That is a fantastic tetsubin, tenuki, certainly one of the nicest I have seen.
Fantastic "Heavenly White" yunomi, Cory. Is this the one on your etsy? If so, I should move this and the replies to your TA topic.

the 8cmx8cm is similar, but shorter in stature and on etsy.
