fornell shino guinomi

by Smells_Familiar » May 11th, '09, 18:42

here's a larger Fornell shino guinomi perfect as a yunomi. super porous...it took me a long time to liquid-proof this one! pretty sweet

i'm kinda on a serial "show off" thread posting spree and i hope it's not annoying anyone...cause i've got a lot more to post!!!

i finally stopped being lazy and took pics (crappy) of most of my stuff. i haven't bought any teaware for a long time (i'm broke :D ), and the stuff i have bought recently is all up at strommen's studio, so all of the stuff i'm posting now i've had for a long time. the dribble continues.

thanks ggu!

i got lucky and found 2 pieces on ebay and the rest i got through email contact with him. i described what i wanted after i looked at his website and then he told me what he had available at the time. unfortunately, he didn't have any of the peices i wanted that were pictured on his site at the time except for one...so i just let him pick out a few things that he thought i would like and i paid for them without seeing first. for the most part i was very very happy with everything.

the man's teaware, sake ware and really everything is stunning...he studied in japan for like 9 years and definately picked up a few tricks. his glazes blow my mind!

here's a link to his site http://www.robertfornellceramicarts.com/

you can find his contact info there :D

Thanks, smells! Beautiful things, especially the black nezumi shino. Wow. I suspect that the absence of prices on his site means that I can't afford it.

My new acquisition! I lurve this cup (as everyone is sure to know, 'lurve' is much more intense than love). It's called "Ocean Cup" by Lee Horus Clark. I plan to use it for all of this season's yummy shincha.

I also purchased a chawan as well, but you'll have to look at the "show off your chawan" thread for that one.

Thanks to GeekGirl for her helpful insights about where to find the coolest of the cool teaware.

That cup really is aptly named, just what I thought of when I saw it, like drinking tea from the sea! Very intriguing yunomi.

Wow, very nice iannon. I saw the other one, this one is more interesting, congrats! (of course the other is VERY nice too, and tempting, but I must practice a LITTLE restraint sometimes... )

hehe the one I got and the other was done after a discussion myself and her had after I saw the dark brown one. She is making some more yunomi styles ones this week I think. the first 2 you saw there were her first runs in this style so she didn't want to make too many to start off with til she liked how it ended up I think..I like how it turned out anyway. I think its beautiful! I encouraged her to hit the artisan forum here too :D

I may end up with 2 of her works after she does the taller thinner yunomi kind!

If you speak with her again regarding custom, you might mention to her that the foot on chawan might serve better if it were a little wider. The brown/blue bowl is lovely, but would possibly not be very steady for whisking. It's kind of a form follows function thing.

I absolutely LOVE her glazes, and have been following this shop for awhile. A friend of mine has several of her pieces. Looking through her "sold" items, I can see I've missed quite a bit. Might have to put her on rss. :)

Great chawan! The green crystal pool is one of the most pronounced I have ever seen.

Thanks for encouraging her to join the TeawareArtisans! :D Did I miss her name, and does Geek know everyone and every chawan?????
