What is it about koicha that draws you back to it again and again?
Thanks !
Its taste.
Seeker wrote: Consistency nice, smooth, but flavor like a punch in the mouth! I used Horai-no-mukashi from Ippodo. I think I'll try this again with another Ippodo - I'm all out of the usual Wakamatsu, but just rec'd some Shin Shun Wakamatsu - what'dya think Olivierco? Will the Shin Shun work? It's their new years version of wakamatsu.
No problem. The Shin Shun is somewhat intenser than the regular.

Here is a picture of koicha vs usacha

Thank you so much GG & O!

GG - so satisfying to see the chawan. I'm sorry you haven't produced a photo of it that you like, so thank you tons for sharing a photo. Hmmm - it really does come off as blue in the photo, enough that I wondered about the name. Curious now to see the green tones, or at least try to imagine them. In it's previous koicha photo, the play of light really made me want to be able to see the glaze more clearly - so, again, tons of thanks. Ahh.

O - woh, . That koicha shot really, and I mean REALLY captures the sense/feel of "paint" for me. And I must say - I am not drawn at all to that texture. But I am very intrigued by the flavors that were at play in my mouth after my couple of sips yesterday.
The wan you show look(s) interesting, and perfect for those shots. Thank you a lot for the photos. Super cool. And, as always, I'd love to see more of that/those wan!
(it/they look sort of kohiki?)
edit/add - O, I've been reading the koicha thread, and now know that the wan is/are linked. So you can't show more! Thanks for sharing the links tho, very, very cool

I have to say, these pictures really make me want to order matcha.. but it must wait until the next tea order, I can't go crazy and order absolutely everything at once. Definitely in my next one though; there's already a sticky-note on my computer to remind me.

Thank you Laura.
Of course, I recommend ordering matcha!
Thanks for looking, being interested, and sharing a post.
Hey - when you get your matcha, we'd love it (all us matcha fans) if you'd share a photo.
Cheers.

Thx GG. :)

Thought I'd post a couple of notes re: Ikuyo-no-mukashi from Ippodo.
I opened it this morning, had my first of it.
I must admit, I was mildly disappointed, but liked it even still.
Smelling the 'leaf' before adding water, really just green, I know that's not very descriptive, but that's kind of it. I suppose there was a slight creaminess, but really a deep green-ness/earthy-grassiness. After whisking (which I was fortunate enough to have help with this morning :D ), I noticed some nutty aromas which were nice, but subtle. Overall a mild matcha. I used 180* water temp. And as always, warmed & dried the chawan, sifted the matcha.

The Ikuyo doesn't hold a candle to either the Wakamashi or Horai, not even close - IMHO.

I'm becoming too immersed in my German studies, it wasn't until after I named this photo and I was uploading it that I noticed I named it "Sansai mit Ippodo matcha"

Image

But used my Sansai for matcha yesterday simply because I felt like it.

Mit Ikuyo-no-mukashi matcha, aber ich muss kreative mit den name bin.

(not sure if that is completely correct. )
"but I must be creative with the names." as I take a lot of pictures and especially with matcha I already have a set with this tea, and the Sansai.

Ich hätte lieber geschrieben "Ich muss mit den Namen kreativ sein", obwohl mein Satz etwas seltsam klingt.
