Yeah, I vote for glazed cherry bark doughnut...but I don't see this look catching on in a chataka anytime soon.CynTEAa wrote:My woodchuck friend doesn't take me to to these finer diners. Lew, there is something very similar at Artistic Nippon. It's sold out, but you could always email Toru about scoring you one.
Also, to be candid, I think it looks like an albatross shat all over it (but in a good way, I guess). It's not my favorite piece, but to each his own.

That definitely is similar, and a Deishi as well, but I kind of fell for the creamed cherry bark look. It reminded me of climbing cherry trees as a boy, and later stumbling across a copy of The Joy of Solo Sex. Although I haven't seen this particular cup listed by Magokorodo before, it wasn't priced like a unique piece, so I'll definitely keep Toru in mind if I don't see another pop up.scruffmcgruff wrote:Lew, there is something very similar at Artistic Nippon. From the description:
And here's a closeup that gives a better sense for the sublime roughness of the exposed clay while zeroing in on a particularly perilous looking glob:The motif of his work is old huge cherry tree "USUZUMI SAKURA" specified as the natural treasure in Gifu Prefecture.
Mr. Deishi is making the work for the bark of the cherry tree seen from between flowers to the model.
The glaze currently used for this work is a special straw-ashes glaze said to resemble semen.

If I'm not in a position where I have to be PC, I fully believe in calling a spade a spade. If this thread was out in general TC, I would have PM'd Brandon to ask if I could remove that post where he quotes me. Since it's here...I went even lower.
And holy crap, that spout is positively pornographic! I do not blame Matt for abandoning all metaphor.
