Is there such a thing as a perfect imperfection? hehe
Ummm, how about Imperfectly perfect, without the dimple?

LOL, although Chamekke's dimples are much more endearing, the added imperfection of the dimple to a perfect kyusu is still causing me some ... confusion. :D

I agree that the kyusu dimple doesn't enhance the appearance of the pot - quite the reverse in my (admittedly very occidental) eyes.

On the other hand, the dimple on the yunomi is not only cute but actually rather handy, as the thumb fits very neatly into it. It's a functional dimple... just like the one on the Douglasware

I really can't get into the dimpled looked. I prefer more perfect symmetry and the idea of adding an imperfection is a hard thing for me to grasp. I did enjoy my Hagi cup when I had it, I think that is as close as I can come to accepting the concept.

I thought it was how you distinguish a male teapot from a female one.

Thank you and good night, everybody!

I don't have a chawan with a dimple (OK, this conversation is becoming increasingly surreal), but I imagine that if I did, the dimple would indicate the front. (It certainly works that way on the Douglasware.)

To tell you the truth, I'm not sure whether the dimple on the kensui indicates its front or not. I think so, but I'm not certain. Another question to ask my sensei when she gets back from Japan. I'm sure she must really wonder about me sometimes.

P.S. I have never used the word "dimple" before in my life, as much as I have in the last 24 hours :)

I was reading today and drinking a pleasant yancha. I caught a glimpse of my teacup that made me smile so I took a snapshot to share. I can grow quite fond of my daily companions. :)

As promised, here are pics of some of my new toys. Monday started my journey into matcha. My technique needs a little refining but I'm hooked already. The chawan is the glass one from Den's. The pretty blue box is a washi box from a local tea house. They're supposed to be used for tea storage. I have an inexpensive white tea in there now to test it out.

Boy, the board sure is ramping up the matcha ante. That's great! Groups get the bug all at once. Nice set up, there, horsencl. Thanks for updating us.

I love the Den's chawan. I just wish they had one slightly larger. It's not a very good size for a regular chasen.

Because you can see and feel the soul and love that goes into them. :)
