Will the ban be effective on tea ordered for personal use?

Looks like Kevin gave us some inside info ... and we should just wait and see.

Really though, who is going long on Shizuoka tea now anyway? Unfortunately sympathy buying by a tiny minority cannot redeem the situation for Shizuoka ... hardly anyone is going to buy even if it is deemed "safe" and within government guideline.

Regardless of whether the tea is safe or not, any vendor who continues to sell Shizuoka tea will be labeled as "under the power of gold."

Probably "personal use" will not be affected, but that really doesn't matter much. It will be interesting to see who continues to sell Shizuoka tea...we won't, at least not this year's harvest.

My guess is that 2012 will have little if any remaining radioactivity. Until then...Uji, Kagoshima.

Thankfully Kago is my favorite anyway...

Such a tragic situation. I watched a moving documentary of storm footage on CNN a month ago, devastating images.

I hadn't give it any thought till seeing this thread. But no, it won't stop me from buying Japanese tea. If I hear that there is something to worry about, then I'll toss out my Japanese tea. But for now, the Japanese need our support. And let's face it...Japanese tea really is delightful!

"... Earlier this month Japan banned the shipment of green tea leaves from all or part of four other prefectures around Tokyo -- Chiba, Ibaraki, Kanagawa and Tochigi -- after radioactive caesium above legal levels was found in samples..."

Then, might radioactivity also concern Ise's area?, I have reciently bought green tea of this zone and am worried, do not know if to throw out it.

It's not statistically probable.
However have a look at here: http://www.mhlw.go.jp/english/topics/2011eq/index.html

Thank you serrao. The problem seems to be very serious and furthermore when we don't know to what site there belong the products that we consume, when we buy them across unknown retailers. :( :?: :!:

I agree. The situation is delicate: radiation is still being found on second harvest tea, but well below the provisional limit of 500 becquerel/kg.

It's interesting how not all japanese tea is tested for radiation. I'll be interested in knowing how much (if any) radiation was accumulated in Uji and Kagoshima tea.

Uji tea has been thoroughly tested, what are you talking about? The answer is zero radiation was found.

The mere word "radiation" tends to induce a bit of irrationality.
