Cory... the nebula is gorgeous!! Every time I look through your work, that old song "Killing Me Softly" goes through my head. Each thing of beauty is a sharp jab to my ailing tea budget. With my recent camera acquisition, my teawares spending is going to have to be curtailed, so I must wait longer still... but continue the beautiful photos, as I seem to be enjoying the pain.

I heard he had a style,
And so I came to see him and listen for a while..."

Wow bro, that is just phenomenally gorgeous.
Geez.
I haven't yet experienced chanoyu (I hope I'm saying that correctly), so I wouldn't know what to do with a mizusashi. But you are inspiring me to want to find out!
Arigato!

aloha all !
just back from firing. tomorrow a tropical storm that was a downgraded hurricane will hit the islands. i fired today. whoa. the winds on the downdraft kiln created an accelerated firing. i tried to compensate. all told, the kiln was about 1 cone difference.
my first time experiencing a strong windy day that would literally suck the reduction flame back into the kiln. WHOA ! live and learn.
also a contributing factor, the bottom was loaded slightly tighter.
i'll open on wednesday. keeping my fingers crossed.
cheers !

We were in Hawaii on the island of Maui in 2002 when a tropical storm came through. Dumped 6" of rain on Maui in just a few hours. The big island had 11-13" in the same time period.
The road to Lahaina was flooded with 2 feet of water running off the mountain and into the ocean. It was the most awesome display of nature I've ever personally seen. There was a ring of mud around the island that extended out into the ocean nearly 1/2 mile. Incredible. Sadly, 3 people died in that storm when their Jeep washed off the road on the Honoapillani Highway.
I hope you all are safe and the storm is light.

Being from the Gulf Coast area the very idea of pottery fired during a TS or hurricane is quite thrilling. Earth, wind and fire! I have been through my share of hurricanes (and one very nasty evacuation) and each time is an adventure. Ceramics that naturally embody those forces and are imbued with them - not just shaped and glazed to mimic or represent them - have a real appeal actually. Hope you get some things you weren't expecting, but are somehow beautiful and thrilling (as are the storms)!
