Ode to the Kyusu

I also can't speak highly enough of Toru, and if you want something from Seiho I would definitely recommend him. I inquired about a particular teapot style about a year ago (http://artisticnippon.com/product/tokon ... eapot.html) and even though it was supposedly discontinued, he was able to special order it for me. It took about a month but it was worth it to get exactly what I was looking for.

Just bought my 4th and 5th kyusu. Only used them once each so far, so I can't really comment on how well they brew tea yet. Initial impressions are quite good!

The first is a (supposedly) 1950's-1960's 6 oz. shudei Tokoname piece bought at The Makari here in NYC. The clay is great, but sadly the lid fit is poor and it drips pretty badly. I'm working on bettering my technique so that I can make friends with this one. The price was too good to pass up. Even though this seems like a commercial quality piece, the engraved sutra on the side is quite nicely done in my opinion. The spout on this one came pre-chipped so I won't have to do it later!









The next is another shudei Tokoname kyusu, but this one is around 10.5 oz. This is by the artist Masahito, and purchased at Artistic Nippon. This lid fit is perfect, and the sesame filter works flawlessly. Very happy with this one!

This is my first unglazed kyusu (second overall). It holds 100ml if I fill it completely to the rim, which is smaller than I thought it would be. Not that that's a bad thing; I literally squealed when I opened it and saw how small and cute it was. Good thing I opened it in the car and not the post office.

I think it's by Gyokko. At least that's the name of the rakuten store. Here's a picture with my den's kyusu for size reference

Great looking kyusu-s everyone. It is amazing how many we have seen and yet still more variety keeps coming!

All these kyusu-s are quite beautiful and make me really wish I had one of my own. I am currently looking around for one (leaning towards something from artisticnippon since I love to spoil myself tea-wise), but it has to wait until after my wife's birthday. More than likely she'll have me wait until my birthday for it too...
Again, beautiful teaware, I can't wait to own one!

Well I found out Toru was going on a business trip last week and was going to pop in to Hokujo. I asked him to look for a small, flat/lowish, plain pot from him and this is what he found for me.

Its 240ml

Its exactly what I was hoping he'd find.
