Hi everyone,
I had a great firing and wanted to share some pictures with you. It rained on and off all day as you can see here.



This one shows the view after I took the door down.



I made sure I made a few turquoise ones.



These got a little hot, glad I wadded everything.

Bill, what are the small-ish looking objects that are on the top shelf in the first picture of the open kiln? It looks like a tree-rack, sort of what I've seen jewelers use for rings and such, but I can't tell what it is.

Hi Drax,
The tree rack things are bead racks I made for my wife to fire beads on. She normally makes porcelain beads and jewelry in her electric kiln, but puts together some with shinos, etc. on my clay to put in with my wood firings. They are extremely popular with her customers. I haven't seen anyone else offer these.

Back out to grinding wads and sanding, there's a lot of extra work with woodfired pottery that other potters don't need to do.

do you fire some pieces without glaze ?

have you ever used shells ? they work well. there is a place in florida where u can get them in bulk, cheaper than shipping to hawaii i suppose !

I am tryingout a new claybody and tried some teacup sized trivets. I made a few and then tried different shinos on them to see how they "fit". I'm always trying something new....



And you mentioned blossoms... I tried my hand at brushwork before, making some teacups with flower/blossom stuff... Thought I'd give it a go again... seemed well received before. Here are some things with blossoms.





I made a new slip up just for brushwork. When I tried my iron saturate, Temmoku, it ran a bit. So this slip is the just the ticket. Stays where you put it, can handle some ash which means I can get more flame on my turquoise oribe for the blossoms, and they will turn turquoise.
While I'm on here, I wanted to show an example of my attempt at fancier picture taking. I saw the lavender was in bloom and I get those darn purples in my oribe, so I clicked the shutter over there... kinda purdy.



Back to listing, I was waiting for a few days for the sun for my pictures. (Not that I didn't need time to get the wads off, sand the rim/lip of the pieces that your mouth goes on, etc). Does the glazes justice though.

I appreciate all the support and kind words! Helps keep me going when doing all the extra work associated with wood-firing. Sometimes I wish I was doing electric or gas firing again. It was so much easier! But, nowhere can you get the results that you get from wood-fire. Very unique.
