How does the Shin Shun compare with the regular?

Very, very similar. Maybe the same, but given a different name for new years? (i think someone said that on TC somewhere).
I don't currently have the 'regular' wakamatsu, so I can't compare. But, again, if memory serves, really similar.

I almost considered buying both of them. But I only have matcha once a week, so I bought neither and then the Shin Shun went OOS.

No crime in pouring a little water in there and recovering the last drops! The Japanese are big in non wasting gyokuro leaves, seems they would not be upset with savoring all that you can of your matcha session.

I actually love doing this, maybe its because I am so used to getting many infusions out of tea it feels odd to make only a bowl for a single serving. So I pour a bit of off boiling water in from the kettle and just wait a bit. Then drink the really weak matcha.

Nice foam GG - looks really great in that awesome chawan. Great shot. That gorgeous chadamari reminds me of an abalone shell.

So now I'm gonna be making a really weak 2nd "infusion" of matcha everyday.

(wouldn't want to waste any of that precious leaf now would we?)
