In reading the miscelaneous thread on Sake, I decided to break out my littlest (only) hagi for its god intended purpose - Sake.
Here it is, devoid of tea, but gleefully filled with the sweet nectar of rice.

Cool Tom, thanks for the pic! I guess I'll get around to trying sake one of these days. I'm pretty sure I haven't. Strange but true.

We have a vintage Seigan blue that does not have a 'mate', so Chip suggested that we dedicate it to Sake! Great idea, that is now it's purpose ... and since the Mod no longer imbibes, it is
my Hagi for Sake
And Tom, you are right, it is the perfect size.

The boxes - are off to the attic.

Living in an earthquake zone as I do, in general I prefer to keep pieces in their boxes.
But, I can't read kanji (well, beyond basic words like "chawan" - not much help when you've got several of them!). So, how to identify what is in each?
One solution is to tuck a photo of the piece underneath the box's ribbon so that you have a sneak preview of what's inside without actually having to untie and unpack it.
I'm not as organized as I'd like to be with my photographs, but some day...! {steeples fingers meaningfully}
The other thing I
used to do, with chawan-s that didn't come with their own boxes, was to store them in Rubbermaid's "Seal 'n Saver 5152" container. This 984 ml container held most standard-sized chawan very nicely, stacked beautifully, and was transparent so that you could see what was inside! Not elegant, but functional and compact. Unfortunately Rubbermaid has stopped making them...
I like your photograph idea Chamekke, unfortunately I don't have space to store them in their boxes even though I'm in an earthquake zone. I made the decision, it was better for me to have access and take the risk. I have lined the shelves with a rubberized shelf liner and I am contemplating a couple other measures. I am already so much happier, just seeing them every day, and knowing I have immediate access. So much so I actually have added a second cabinet for my kyusu and yixing.
It was nice having a beautiful presentation formal dining room for awhile. Now I guess I am thinking ... formal dining room that gets used twice a year vs. the ease of getting to my teaware. Teaware wins.

Speaking of Seigan blue - here is my most recent Seigan blue guinomi. My forth Seigan blue. The rough sand's dark rim really pops against the blue. This piece is so vivid!

Thanks to you both!!
I won this little number on eBay.
Which reminded me to go pick up the vendor pics.
I like to keep those too. Here's the vendor shot
of the inside:

That blue is awesome Victoria...I would love a chawan in that color!
Shhhhhh, just between you and me...if you ever need to cull any pieces from your collection, can I have first dibs?
Thanks for the pictures!

Seigan Blue!
Le drool... le slobber...
I agree about the rim, Victoria. It's like seeing blue Northern Lights flashing against a dark sky.
