Re: Today's MatchaWan :D (new name, but tea's the same)
Love that top pic! Great color, great focus. Gonna have some matcha in a mo'. Maybe I'll shoot. Right now I'm reviewing a few pics of the dang geese that gave me a run for my money yesterday. Stupid birds.

Hi Geek,
Thanks!
Ohhhh - I''d love to see a GG matcha-chawan pic!
(sorry the geese weren't cooperating - did you talk to them nicely or were you casting aspersions?

Nah, I was just walking to the bus. They had taken over the entire path and were not really okay with the idea that anybody else got to use it. They're the neighborhood bullies. Oh and you should have seen me yelling and stomping and swinging my tote to get them to move their waggly little bottoms out of the way!
Don't they seem quite impressed?

(imagining you there swinging your tote and such, and the geese just somehow indignant)
the troublesome, yet beautiful geese.

My brother back in Minnesota calls them "sky carp".

here's that 2nd photo - I decided I didn't like it as it was.
So, I am taking the risk of re-posting it here, having possibly made it worse

Cheers.

Seeker,
Now if you had a Matcha tasting blog or something of that sort, that might just make a great top banner! And while it is of interest in its self, I almost feel it is incomplete, but I can not quite put my finger on how or why. I think it might be the fact that its such a vivid color picture and its completely surrounded by white, so the ends of the picture are quite definitive.

Agreed, also think the crop is slightly off. Maybe if the lip of the bowl didn't bisect the image at nearly dead center? And for a long "pano" image, it does seem to need some sort of framing. Given that, the clarity and color of the bowl is really pretty.
And ditto on the banner worthiness!

Thanks for the feedback you two!

Thanks!!! that bowl has four very different sides I tried to show off a few of them. Todays Matcha is Organic Domatcha, Koicha. I wasn't the photographer, we are having a grey and rainy day so a flash was in order, this matcha was just the thing for an overcast pick me up.!!!

Re: Today's MatchaWan :D (new name, but tea's the same)
The long-awaited post: My First Matcha! Den's Matcha Kaze. Was perhaps a little too astringent for my tastes, but maybe I'll get used to it. Got a hint of sweetness, but not quite enough.. maybe that will come with refined technique? Followed instructions from here as closely as I could - poured boiling water into another cup to be measured (since it was the first time, I really wanted to see how much is actually the right amount instead of guessing) and to cool, sifted 1 tsp of powder into my (pre-heated and dried) makeshift wan, whisked like mad - with a normal whisk, no chasen here... yet.

I like this cup and so rarely get to use it, I thought "why not"... not realizing just how big the other chawans are that are getting posted
Might have to buy something new... eventually. I have a slightly larger teabowl, but it's thinner at the bottom, which I figured wouldn't be good for whisking. Thoughts?

Matcha Kaze is what is pictured above yours in my phone photo ...
I find it to be pretty smooth, sweet, and mild. You might need to play with the parameters a bit.
I think almost all of us have improvised first time or so making matcha, but looks like you did pretty good! How big is this bowl? Looks like a lot of liquid in it. I usually make 2-4 ounces. 4 ounces if it is a lower priced version like Kaze.
