May be all three reasons you have mentioned, maybe I just haven't hold the right piece yet. Probably most important for me is the final feeling. Softness of raku bowls is more then welcome and for some tea occasions very important- but I still miss some essence in western raku chawans when holding them. It will be for longer discusion (and many cups of tea) one day in personI am curious what makes you trouble with that. Post reduction (smoke), low fire, far from tradition? I am curious because I have/had some trouble too.
