no! dont regard me as an expert because there are many others whom had been playing pots for decades, whilst my "experience" would be extremely paltry.
it is just that i had very good teacher(s), people whom were willing to teach you everything they know straight to the point, this allows one's knowledge, experiences and expertises not to be limited by the existing regional market (where pots are hoarded, and a lot of not so high quality stuff are flowing). i had benefited from the benevolence of my teacher(s), sharing what i had learnt with others is just passing on their legacies.

jayinhk wrote:Great info, thank you kyarazen! Many of us here consider you one of our resident Yixing experts. I certainly learned a lot. I've handled some beautiful older hongni pots here in HK in the last few weeks, one of which rang like a bell when I put the lid back on. I may have to ask how much that particular pot is as it really caught my eye. The high pitched chime surprised me as the teapot had a very heavy base and I didn't expect it!
My interest in Yixing was awakened after I bought a knockoff pot in Taiwan about a month ago. I've been using four good zini shuipings for four years and wanted something different for gaoshan. I certainly have a lot to learn, but I think I'm in a pretty good place to learn more about Yixing teapots! I wish I read and spoke better Chinese, but this is certainly motivation to learn!

I have ordered one, couldn't hold myself back, especially as essence of tea has also a few smaller 4 cup pots in that batch, and i have been on the look out for a smaller hong ni shui ping from that era for quite a while, and i am glad that the farfarfar more knowledgeable kyarazen has confirmed my impression. I also think that the price is about as good as one can get over the net, about the same and/or not substantially above what one would have to pay in a brick and mortar shop here in Asia nowadays (however, i am not really up to date on current prices)

Re: Essence of Tea new yixing
I bought two myself. At this stage, I still can't confidently identify good pots, so I decided to play it safe since this is a known source and those more knowledgeable than me believe these to be the real deal. One 4-cup and one 6-cup.

i'm considering getting one...
any strong recommendations for tea to try from EoT while i'm at it?

4-cups are all gone and were gone in hours! Two-cup pots will be up later.

The 3 available peacocks are great. If you like softer, "jammier" puerh you'll like them. The 2006 Wild is a little sour leather whereas the 2000 as aged into a really nice soft but thick and intense mouthfeel.
The 2014 yunyun is great if you're looking for brash, young, bitter, slightly smoky puerh.
The 1970 and 1992 looseleafs are great value. 1970 is strong and caramelly. The 1992 is a bit wet but lots of returning energy from the stomach.
The 1980's Zhongcha 8653 (the cheaper of the 8653) is my favorite aged tea, if i had to select one. It is the most interesting in flavor of the aged teas I have had a chance to try and qi that had me in a comfortable state for multiple days.
Hope this helps!

What does cup translate to? 1 cup=30 ml?jayinhk wrote:I bought two myself. At this stage, I still can't confidently identify good pots, so I decided to play it safe since this is a known source and those more knowledgeable than me believe these to be the real deal. One 4-cup and one 6-cup.
Re: Essence of Tea new yixing
According to their math, 85ml/6 = 14.2ml, so approx 15 ml. That means the 4-cup would be 60 ml~ I guess.
Re: Essence of Tea new yixing
Chatting with David, 1 cup = 15ml.
As far as I remember from an old post by wert, F1 used 1 cup = 15ml until the early '70s, and later 1 cup = 20ml. But for these EoT pots the 6 cups is 85ml.
