And ditto on the gorgee-o-sity of the bowl. Dark bowls and beautifully lit matcha make wonderful visual statements. As you say, the berry color is excellent with the greeeeeeeen.

NOTE: I understand there has been a recall on your camera and you need to mail it back to the factory before you take another stunning photo. Something about an explosion hazard, so it's really quite urgent. Really!

LMAO!!! It's all your fault, really. If you didn't keep raising the bar, I wouldn't have to keep trying to jump over it!

I totally agree with this assessment. Although the first matcha I tried DID come from a more or less reputable source. I wanted to try an affordable matcha without shipping though, before I forked out for O'Cha or something like. This one seems to fit the bill (thanks to Uwajimaya. That giant store is sometimes good for something.) This particular one was vacuum sealed, and in an airtight foil bag inside, and had the little "freshness" anti-moisture packages in the can.

Now I'm really looking forward to trying some real quality matcha, perhaps even koicha sometime.

As my son's favorite tee shirt says: "It's only funny till someone gets hurt, then it's hilarious."

Thought this thread could use a bump due to the latest round of folks trying matcha. Here's a nice picture too. (The real reason! )

I like to drink my matcha up really fast so I can see the tea foam clinging to the inside of the bowl. Maybe this explains my newest obsession with chawan.

Ok, I finally made a bowl of matcha that looks properly. I even managed a very pretty foam that made a nice mound in the middle. The problem is the taste. It tastes like nothing, basically it doesn't have any taste at all.

I am using Matcha Kaoru Organic, 1 scoop using chashaku, preheated dried bowl, 4oz 170°F water, whisked into a foam with a chasen. The result is smooth (not grainy like my previous attempts), emerald green, somewhat buttery tasteless liquid.

What am I doing wrong? Please, help!

I use 1.5 to 2 chashaku in 4 oz water. But I am no matcha expert.

Yeah, 4 oz : 1 scoop is a bit on the light side. I normally use more than that, not quite sure what my normal ratio is, I tend to just eyeball it. Just add more!

Great advice to up the leaf! Thanks!

I have also found these instructions to making matcha that I thought were very clear and somehow very dear: Horaido instructions for Matcha.
