Yeah...that leaf looks incredible in the glass gonfu pot. I have wanted one for some time. Most them have such thin glass...but I guess that is ok for green oolongs and greens. What is this one like...thick or thin glass?
SST a ittle earlier...still have a 5th steep sitting in the pot.
But moved onto Heirloom Tea Flowers.

Thin glass, borosilicate. It probably would not be appropriate for roasted/heavily oxidized oolongs or pu which like to be hotter, it is an ideal pot for chinese greens and low oxidized oolongs. It needs a second rinse for tightly rolled oolongs, because the lower temperature and heat loss makes the leaves unfurl much more slowly. I didn't get full leaf expansion until the 3rd steep on this oolong.Chip wrote:What is this one like...thick or thin glass?
I say start a new thread, but sticky the old one and lock it so people can still see and drool over all the pretty pictures.
I started today with some Oolong #8 at work and tried some of the Darjeeling my uncle gave me this evening. It wasn't bad, though I will have to try it again to see if I get a better impression of it next time. It didn't do much for relaxation after I got the bright idea to give one of my cats a bath. After the cat was slightly cleaner than before, I decided on a cup of Valentines with almond milk to end my day.

Nope, no puking up the spider plant, at least not as long as they get it regularly. When I used to bring one in just every month or so, one of mine would sometimes throw some of it up but usually because she was dealing w/ hairball issues. Now that one is out all the time, there is no plant-related puking.
The cat grass has also been a big hit at the house, but the spider plants seem to be more resilient than the grass."

We lost our cat of 19 yrs. a year and a half ago. Got two kitties (sisters) after that. One eats the plants, the other dosn't. Can't help you with that, but if they use large planters for a litter box...pine cones!!! Works great
Yunnan gold as usual this AM. No input on Teaware stuff, too new!! jim
Wow, it's been a long day. I made my flight home from Dallas today... gulped down a cup of oolong before I left the hotel and grieved over the leaves I left behind... they were bound to have at least 2 more steeps in them.
I got home to find a box waiting from Upton's... my first order from them. I tried the lychee first, and it was "just ok"... but I am SO in an oolong frame of mind right now. Auggy brought me 2 oolong samples... one is already gone and the other is half gone... both are yummm from SpecialTeas. I'm having some Adagio TKY now, also yummmm.
On a sad note, I broke my brand new Bodum giant teacup after only using it once... I am such a klutz. I also bought a small Bodum glass, not a traditional teacup but a nice size, I think maybe 4 or 6 oz (haven't measured yet)... so I am drinking from that now.
Oh, and I voted make a new thread... I am also in favor of not sub-dividing the thread, I like it as it is with girlie English teasets posted alongside the most traditional Japanese teaware. Great diversity, especially for those of us unschooled in teaware.

Summer vacations are the ideal time for me to try new teas.Salsero wrote:
I was surprised that the best one was not the oldest one, but it was the best Shui Xian I think I have had, with the possible exception of one that was made from the SX varietal but grown in the Phoenix Mountains in Guangdong, which is actually where Shui Xian originated and some is still grown, though Dan Cong is the main brew there now.
What brewing vessel did you use? Not one of your kyusu, I hope! I didn't know you indulged in the Wuyi oolongs.
I brewed it in a gaiwan.

$9? I'm so jealous. But some of us aren't lucky enough to have a store with piles of teaware nearby! Somehow I don't think it would be all that economical for me to fly to Portland to get cheap teaware. Darn it!GeekgirlUnveiled wrote:I've seen that one in the store (link doesn't work right now, I think their site is down, so I'm guessing which one it is.) Yes it's very nice, and it's not ridiculously small, you could get a traditional teacup out of it, I think. It's also $30-35? This one cost $9, and it's just as nice. No joke.

So you liked I take it? Yay! I've got 2 more oz of the pouchong at home but am almost out of the tung ting. I might have to do something about that soon!kymidwife wrote:Auggy brought me 2 oolong samples... one is already gone and the other is half gone... both are yummm from SpecialTeas.

From what I understand, there is supposed to be a pretty decent Japanese population in Portland, too, right? That plus tea shops, I wanna go!GeekgirlUnveiled wrote:Heh. My credit card will be in a big time hurt this week, I'm thinking. I'm finally ready(ish) to do another tea order!

Japantown itself isn't very dangerous.auggy wrote:I like SF. And I like going to Japan town when I'm there. Though I haven't been since I started drinking tea. Might be even more dangerous now.Pentox wrote:Ah, good to be back. This morning's cup is some Nara Tsukigase. Auggy and GGU you guys should come down to SF. We have plenty of teashops here.
Places to beware of are: Lupicia, Imperial Tea Court, Teance
Places to beware of I haven't been to yet: Samovar Tea Lounge, Far Leaves, Red Blossom Tea Company, and oh so many others.

Seems especially unfair because most of the tea comes from the far EAST, not the wild WEST.
