I rarely see Taiwanese teaware posted here even though there are some really good tea items that are made there. Quality Chinese teaware isn't exclusively from Yixing and Jing De Zhen, although they do seem to be the most popular.

I purchased this Taiwanese Mineral Ore teaset last year and have used it mostly for Aged Zheng Cong with excellent results. It has also worked well with high-fired Budda's Hand. I have found that brewing Taiwanese teas in Taiwanese teaware works very well overall, often without the fussiness that is present when using Yixings.

This set has the rustic look and feel so often found on Japanese teaware but so rarely seen with Yixing.

This set was purchased at Hou De Asian and was manufactured by Lin's Ceramic Studio, Taiwan. Pot is 150cc and cups are 60cc.

I must confess that I have more than a dozen Yixings. However, there's only a few that I actually use.

I must also confess that I had three other Taiwanese pots/sets that I gave away. That was a big mistake, as I had overall better results using them then I did with the many Yixings. I'm considering going back to the Taiwanese teaware, except it's not as easy to find.

I bought the last one of these sets last year from Hou De and they haven't re-stocked them. Guang of Hou De Asian has commented that their trip to Taiwan this year is intended to aquire more Taiwaanese teaware as well as Yixings. I hope this turns out to be reality.

I've included the link to Lin's Ceramic Studio, Taiwan. The site is mostly Chinese language, even when choosing English, but I managed to find several interesting sections that include these mineral ore sets as well as Yixing type pots made in Taiwan. I may contact Guang to see if he can special-order some of these items.

They have a patent on a dual metal mesh filter, but when I was last on their site, some pots, especially the smaller Yixing style, were also offered with traditional ceramic filters.

I haven't ordered from them, although I have attempted to do so without any luck. I couldn't find/figure out the shopping cart and payment system. If I can, I'll let you know or if you do, please let me know.

Wow, wonderful stuff. That's just what I need, one more place to get teaware!

Insanity_Later has already threatened to cut me off ... but that was in a different thread, maybe he doesn't come here.

britt, that Taiwanese Mineral Ore teaset is stunning.

I tend to gravitate towards the Japanese shore as teawares go, but your set is making me think I need to reassess!

Yeah, fairly reasonable prices (~$100) too. I haven't checked out shipping costs, but I'm thinking I may get one of these.

That's the same pot I wanted to purchase, the small one with the ceramic filter. I think they also have a similar one in yellow clay, but I don't remember which filter it had. Most tea drinkers probably don't even know this stuff exists. I just wish it was easier to obtain.

Hou De used to carry several of Lin's gaiwans which were clay outside and lined inside. They had several color combinations, including one that was black and red, which gave it a rather unique look. They were never re-stocked, but hopefully after this year's Taiwan trip they'll ship back some more of this awesome teaware.

Eilong Studios is another Taiwan teaware line that is sometimes found at Hou De, but they're more porcelain oriented and a lot of their items have flowers and fruit all over them. They did have a few nice, plain items though.

Thanks.

Don't worry; Hou De is out of stock and I don't know of anyone who has successfully used the online shopping cart and payment system on the Taiwanese site that lists these items. I think your wallet (or credit card) is safe for now!
