Glad to hear you are OK, Victoria. Sounds like injuries and damage were very minimal.

Nevertheless, I am sure it was very unnerving. Watch the aftershocks.

Enjoying all the photos. You know Space...you can bake if you want to...

And enjoying another Korean green called Chigarok green from Hankook. It is interesting. I think I am beginning to get a feel for the Korean greens and would like to learn more. Now if only their English site was up...*waiting*

I'd like to wish you the same, Victoria!

Chip, it seem like a fukamushi to me. It is a makinohara sencha. It has nice sweet complex notes: fava bean, apricots and i swear when it cooled it was like lychee!

Thanks everyone for the pic encouragement. :)
Googling this came up with interesting results...the 3rd "result" was your post, Cyn...thought that was funny. So, not tons of hits on this topic.

There is some mention of Fuka, the liquor almost certainly looks like fuka...and by your description, it sounds more like a fuka than an asamushi.

I am not familiar with this one though. Still reading.
blah blah blah SENCHA blah blah blah!!!

That would be a third in my area

Is "Just drink the stuff" less or more interested then "indifferent"?

I have an aquaintance who just opened a very successful (so far so good)teahouse - with a very old well established one right around the corner. Both shops are in a "quaint" British style, not Oriental.

Despite similiarities, she must have looked at what was available in the area - and worked very hard to fill in the gaps providing them. She (and three helpers) bake and cook, have a large display case - offer many kinds of tea. They have tables set for 48 customers to sit down and order something more substantial than just a cup of tea and a pastry. To keep the place going in an expensive tourist area - they need to be attractive and be ready for turnover.
So - Its not a one man (or woman) show.

And to make it more than a daydream requires hard work, thought, and real understanding of the business end. ( Not to mention Location Location Location).

I hate to say it but I'd rather just drink the stuff - with good friends and some music preferably. Best wishes and good luck all.

i think it'd be neat to open a "teabar" of sorts with fresh looseleaf, but as for now i'll just reap the benefits of others' work :)

puerhshop samples all week and continuing for me, with a bit of sencha and genmaicha thrown in now and then.

Victoria - hope things calm down for you there and no big damage.

Well, aside from mouse poop on my desk, not a bad day today. Boss-man even got no kill traps. Cause yeah, no way I am disposing of a dead mouse. Live one, no problem. Dead. Eew.

And making today even better by finishing off with the last of my ali shan sample. This is the first time it's really knocked my socks off - before it was just eh but today is very good. Dang it, I just might have to get more.

CynTEAa--nice photo! I like the wetness of the stones.

Victoria--glad you are ok! I just now saw the news.

Space Samurai--bamboo stuff is cool. I have a small bowl and am amazed at the lightness of it. I also have a t-shirt that has been woven with bamboo fiber--very comfortable.

I had a tea adventure today--teaventure? I found a TeaSmith, bought samples of Formosa Oolong and an Khongea Golden Assam. They had the tiniest little dark blue Yixing pot...which I couldn't leave behind. It looked so very lonely on the sale shelf.

Also, I had them brew a cup of Organic Pu Ehr. Wow. The clerk let me smell the leaves first--like mushrooms, peatmoss, wet dirt. The taste I can't quite describe...earthy? Peaty? I added a small amount of sugar, which is probably a sin, but I like sugar in my tea.

My better half nearly spat it across the table, but oddly enough, I think it was ok. I didn't dislike it. Not sure I'll be buying any of it, though.

Is it my imagination, or does Pu Ehr have more caffeine than black teas?

Victoria: I hope every thing is okay in California.

I am indifferent. I have a semester left in college and have no clue what I am going to do after that beyond find a job somewhere. It would be nice to have my own bakery and tea house, but I would rather have an actual full time job first before diving into something that requires start up funds and lots of planning. I've dreamed of becoming a baker, but never really

Organic Monk's Blend today so far. I found soy whipped cream in the fridge when I was looking for dinner ingredients so I ended up with a mug of hot chocolate instead of the tea that I boiled the water for originally. Now, I am enjoying a cup of Blood Orange Rooibos.

Just when I though I had seen everything, I purchased some bamboo quilt batting last week.
I bought my very first bamboo socks about a week ago :)

OMG. That would be a huge cockroach. If I ever see one of those, I'm leaving and never coming back.

Lemme tell ya, it's very tasty. The look of the leaf screams deep steaming. Let me know what you find. The lychee was a surprise. At first I couldn't place it!

I voted other- I am signing up for tea lessons at Seven Cups and thinking of forming a tea club at the school I work at- might be fun for middle and high schoolers.

The photos today are just AMAZING!

Victoria- be safe- or come to Arizona.

Chai tea after work- I don't do milk in mine- but I love the spices.

Flowers are dried lavender, the plate is from a local potter "Vince and Sabrina." Very nice people and very willing to sell online. Their work is very reasonably priced too. I think my little plate was less than $15. You can see more of their stuff if you go to my flickr photostream (www button at the bottom of my post) and in the search box enter "Sabrina."
