Hsin-Zhu for me. I prefer Bai Hao to the green oolongs, though I will happily drink either.
Soon, some homemade rum raisin chocolate chip scones and a cup of Shui Xian.

Yeh, even for us tea drinking he-men, those first days are tear jerkers. I knew a woman who had ten children and she said she went home after all ten first days of kindergarten and balled her eyes out. I've only done it three times (that's plenty) and I'm not admitting a thing.henley wrote:(Sorry-emotional mommy moment.)
Not to put words in your mouth, but in my benighted undertanding, I have to say Gao Shans are more like each other than unlike ... altitude, weather, and processing seem to matter more than which mountain. Of course, the lower altitude teas vary quite a bit for each other, but I also suspect this is more due to local processing than to terroir.henley wrote: can't tell a lot of difference between this & the Ali Shan from last night. Will have to play w/the two of them side by side next time.

A good Taiwan oolong to start with IMHO, is the greener Adagio Oolong #18. Or the Pouchong. Good introductions and available as samples as well.
Funny you should say that... I just ordered #18 last night... because I now constantly seriously crave greenish oolongs. I've have 8 and 40 but not 18, and I liked how the leaf looked in the photos... looks like something I'll enjoy. I can't wait to sniff the leaf...
For me, really hard to choose, Wenshan has been amazing for me lately.
Can't wait to try the Wenshan... hope there is some left in the oolong pass box.
Exactly same thing here. Just replace the word kindergarten with the word college. My daughter is moving into her dorm on 21st.henley wrote: Nothing like getting ready for kindergarten! Took my dtr & a couple of her preschool friends out to lunch for a back-to-school pizza party. Spent the rest of the afternoon shopping for school supplies & attending open house. It's official--my baby girl starts kindergarten on Thursday.(Sorry-emotional mommy moment.)

Hugs to you!
So I had a hard time voting.. because I have tried so few oolongs yet... but I thirst for the opportunity to compare! I am trying to patiently await my turn on the oolong pass box, but I suspect I will be ordering some new things before then, because I am just not the patient sort.
For those who were following my medical issues... a quick update.... saw the neurologist today, who seems quite assured that my symptoms are relating to a mild vitamin or mineral deficiency... so more bloodwork is in order. She's also testing me for Lyme's Disease and checking thyroid stuff. The symptoms have improved some over the last week or so.
There were 2 pieces of good news... #1, she doesn't think it's Multiple Sclerosis, and #2, she said she was HIGHLY skeptical that tea could be causing my problem. She did say if the nerve endings are already irritated, caffeine could intensify it some, but she does not believe it is the root cause.
Soooooo... I am falling off the wagon... craving some tung ting jade soooo much... and the water is heating right now.

***This organic blend is earthy & spicy, with a fragrant aroma & smooth flavor to captivate the senses. Naturally sweetened in the Kentucky sunshine & infused with natural energy. Equally delicious when served piping hot or crisply chilled.***

Kymidwife-glad you've had some improvement. Go enjoy some tea!!!

Sal-plan on doing a side-by-side comparison soon. The results should be interesting! Thanx for confirming my thoughts.

Side-by-sides are so much more revealing than drive bys, but such a bother ... and then there's all the tea to drink! It would be more fun to do side-by-sides with three or four other people. Even if the others have no saavy about tea, they could at least soak up some of the excess tea. Actually, the right non-experts can sometimes have real insight into what they are tasting, and more tasters means more points of view and more opportunity to work out your own impression via talk.henley wrote: Sal-plan on doing a side-by-side comparison soon. The Wenshan I am currently sipping is very nice as usual.
Oolongs are sooo variable by grower, locale, vendor, manufacturer... I think the greener ones are more consistant.
Talk about variable oolong. Dong Ding, you never know what you are going to get.
Side by side tastings are a great idea...better in groups so everyone can slurp and share mmmmm's.
Glad to hear you are on the mend, Sarah.

My last tea of the day was a Boazhong but this time from NCTG -
it was pretty good.
Not awesome, but a decent cuppa.

It's good, but I liked Laurie in Blackadder even better. (Especially the "Great War" series.)leiche wrote:Yeah, it is. Never actually seen the series, though.joelbct wrote:lol, is that avatar a picture of Hugh Laurie from the Wodehouse-Jeeves TV series?
In my cup this evening, some Yunnan Gold that I made with my new Chinese gaiwan / Japanese houhin or shiboridashi / whatever the heck this thing is:

Looks like it's grinning, doesn't it? It's like one of those small lapdogs that are always showing a little row of teeth above their lower lip.
