Sorry to post so late in the game...this all happens when I'm away from my computer!
Anyway, Sal- I really enjoy your daily posts and your photographs! It shows your dedication to tea, and I have always believed that everyone enjoyed it. To the haters...well, like others have said under this thread, when there are people, there will be complaining and what not when things don't appear/appeal to their liking.
On that note, about incessant posting, I too have been guilty of quoting another post and leaving a small comment. To me, I just want to put in my 2 cents about the thing, and also like GeekGirl pointed out several posts back, *I* really like it if I post something and even if someone replies with a simply 'That's pretty neat!' or whatever, i get smiley and enjoy the fact that someone saw my measly post on matcha recipes, etc . I can see how going off-topic can be annoying (esp. to the newbies in search for an answer), but I personally do not see it happen that often that it has become a problem. I enjoy off-topic posting; sometimes we don't have tea on the mind all the time, and as long as it doesn't get out of control. Anyway, if sal is 'guilty' of incessant posting, then paint me guilty as well. I think we all know to keep it in check for the most part- we have our places like chat, TD, and ITD to banter banter banter. I guess there are some people who would like to see the forums very cut and dry...answer after answer- no shifting whatso ever. I think our off topic-ness and banter adds a lot of personality to this board. I'm sorry I'm reiterating most of this. If you need a question answered, email info@adagio.com. We'll take a look at it.
If you have a problem, you let me know! Like Mary has said, it's very easy to fix these things... But if it is to complain about a poster who is 'posting too much', sigh. Really? I doubt that these people in question are on ITD, and are probably of the lurking type, especially, since they are anons. If this was on the street or in person, you'd tell me to my face if something is up...no hiding behind your tea cup. Log in or shut up.
Anyway, enough of my ranting. Sorry to have posted this as it looks like we've moved onto more lighthearted banter, and for the additional post. I guess I'm a bit wired...my mother made a pot of regular coffee, which I thought was decaf, so I made myself a pot, and I drank it all as not to waste it, which was about 5 cups of coffee. I'm going nuts.
Sal, you're always welcomed on teachat, and post, post away!

Long quotes and short comments are so ingrained in the habits of forums I'd be willing to call it internet decorum, even culture. It's simply a standard of communication. Yes, there are posts that are "meatier" than others, but a conversation does not need to be a structured debate with each side given seven minutes of lengthy commentary. Small pips and squeaks are part of verbal communication, why not digital communication? Sure, you could control (warp) ITD by demanding stricter rules governing posting, eliminating terse "lols" but I think that seems...affected? Faked? Too much restraint. The internet is as the internet does. Ex. lolcats. You gotta take it for what it is, and that includes something that might appear to be incessant posting. But it isn't. It's just talking.

I feel no special obligation to remain on-topic, but have been making efforts not to skew the signal:noise ratio quite as much lately.
I think the vast majority of turbulence we've experienced for a while now actually signal a wild success for the site. The TeaChat universe is popular enough to experience fresh new challenges all the time, and healthy enough to survive difficultues.

Most of the time I actually don't see one word posts. Instead of "Neat!" people usually add something along the lines of "That's neat, I like the [some aspect of the thing]." I think that a lot of those do contribute something. Comments like "I agree" can especially contribute in the world of tea where there are far more opinions than fact; newbies that were almost turned away from something, for example, were encouraged to try them by a single substantive post followed by several "I agree" posts.
I agree that in some really long threads it makes them harder to go back, but most of the time I think the noise is kept to a minimum.
I've also never really seen things go terribly off topic, at least not to the point where it isn't easily brought back to the specific topic of the OP very easily. I think that's just kind of the nature of tea - there's a lot of overlap with just about everything. Someone can ask about green teas and responses can drift into brewing puerh and still fit. I'm not a mod, but I don't recall many complaints (except perhaps from posts by the likes of MochaWheels, who could answer "how do I brew [x]" with "I LIKE WHITE MINT OOLONG!" <cringe>).

Of course cats being cute is an exception, though it doesn't seem to happen much outside of ITDSalsero wrote:For me, cats rank somewhere between snakes and cockroaches, but I have to admit this one found my soft spot. How can you hate cats?! (And for the record, I quite like snakes

I don't hate any living thing, but there's a large number of them I don't want hanging around in my house. Show me a cute picture of a snake and I'll gush over it, but I'm still not ranking them much above cats!ABx wrote: How can you hate cats?! (And for the record, I quite like snakes)
One of my best friends is actually a cicada. He's a little shy, but he's starting to come out of his shell.

You know, it might be time to petition Mary to come in and do one of her famous, thread locking maneuvers.
