I put my kyuusu in the cupboard when tea noobs come over. Either they will think you are smoking something out of it, or if you tell them it's for brewing tea, they will assume you are gay.Cinnamon Kitteh wrote:You don't know how many times people at college have assumed that was what my kyusu was used for...

Victoria: That is pure patent infringement! The design has Japan written all over it.

Hey everyone!
I have a confession, I've been negelecting drinking tea but my senior project is about why tea is signifiant to the world. Right now I'm gathering info on the history and traditions of tea drinking. I would love to interview someone who is knowledgable about tea culture. Let me know if your interested.

No kyusu for me nor do I see one in my future. I do, however, have some serious chataku envy going on. You know my usual question, Sal.
Compared to yesterday, today was (thankfully) relatively uneventful. W/bfast today was the Golden Buddha I started last night. In my cup now is another pleasant surprise from the oolong box--Feng Haung Dan Cong from Tea Spring. It's a light color oolong but has a fuller flavor than some of the other light oolongs I've tried. It's quite good. Cup's empty... Must refill!

The chataku is from Moku. It's the second row, far right, 13-10. It cost $2.80 and is called Yonsun Kuro Ranbori Chataku. The drawing is chiseled into the wood then painted. You will have to hire a Japanese buying agent since Moku doesn't deal in English or ship overseas.henley wrote: You know my usual question, Sal.
Sorry!
It was one of ten that I ordered through the agent. The base cost of the ten chataku was $41.70. After adding in shipping from Moku to the agent, shipping from the agent to me, and the agent's fee, the ten chataku cost $76.50.

No problem, I didn't intend to buy it.Victoria wrote: Actually Olivier saw it first on rikyucha, but was wavering and I snapped it up!

In fact I knew you were searching for "rice" teaware so I posted a picture of it and it took you no more than 3 minutes to buy it.

Space: both photos are gorgeous.
I love what can be seen of the yunomi in the second pic. I'm curious about the design that can be seen at extreme upper left on the yunomi. It might just be manju-giku ("steamed-bun"[-shaped] chrysanthymum), in which case, it's also highly seasonal!

I had to look it up to find out what a kyusu is. Then I realize I do have one kyusu. I got it with 4 or 6 cups in a sale for a very good price. My kyusu is not an upscale kind, but very convenient to use. Besides, it's the smallest one of all my tea pots, holding just about 1 cup of water. I like it small!
