Of course they are not Qing at 100 USD this would be an impossiblity. But even pots that were made 20, 30 years ago are far better quality than the crap that is out on the market today.kyleshen wrote:5000friend on Ebay sells mostly fake vintages so I wouldhop_goblin wrote:Ebay Taiwan or 5000friend on Ebay as well.
and read the text again. I will say it again loud and clear with more than 25 years of experience in collecting Yixing teapots. These are "fake" antique and some of their teapots are aged artificially. They are newly made in last several years and are not "were made 20, 30 years ago are far better quality than the crap that is out on the market today.". You do not have enough knowledge in Yixing teapots so be careful with what you are saying.

You also said that 5000friend pots were made more than 20 years ago here:hop_goblin wrote:Hey Mr. Yixing Masterkyleshen wrote:Please think again when you said "than you did not do your homework". You do not have enough knowledge in Yixing teapots so be careful with what you are saying.if you read my post correctly I was only commenting that pots made more than 20 years ago generally exhibit better quality. I was comparing Qing to contemporary.
That comment is without any substantiation, and even if true, is overshadowed by the fact that 5000friend coats the pots with shoe polish or some other gunk, rendering the pot completely useless. I find it appalling that anyone would recommend pots from that seller, much less drink tea from something that smells like a freshly polished pair of Doc Martens. Many "contemporary pots" are signed with Meng chen, yi-gong and so forth.. Not really their signatures.. just inspired by the artist. I guess the point is.. that many people in the Yixing game have the understanding that you can not buy a Qing at 100USD, I would also have to disagree with the idea that many of these pots are "new". If you examine the clays, and compared the craftmanship with the industiral slip stuff that is on the market.. No comparison.. many of his pots were made before the 1990s Taiwan Yixing craze. Well said betta.
As a sidenote, I've paid my "tuition" and currently have two 5000friend pots sitting in my closet collecting dust. I've attempted to clean them as best I could, but still am too sketched out to use them. If anyone wants them, PM me!
I soaked the pots in a diluted chlorine bleach solution, then scrubbed them with a stiff brush. The problem was scrubbing the inside with any precision because my brush was too large, but the soak seemed to make the shoe polish removal much easier. I then boiled the pots for many hours, soaked them in fresh water, and boiled them again to dissipate the bleach.MarshalN wrote:How did you clean the shoe polish? Before I joined TeaChat and started to learn more than I could from the many books that I had bought. I found an interesting site on Ebay that sold Chinese clothes thousands and thousands of them. The site as a sideline had 400 yixing pots from a warehouse clearance and were going at (compared to U.S. based sites like seven cups, funalliance etc) ridiculously low prices.MarshalN wrote:How did you clean the shoe polish? I bought 3 and was delighted with them - so I bought 6 more - and was delighted with them - Nice boxes and accompanying artists names and certificates - so I bought many more which included a set of 4 beauties and a set of 12 Emperors.
Whilst seasoning a couple of the Emperors the shoe polish was rife, 4 3 hour seasonings and wipings later I was worried so E-Mailed the vendor - who informed me that these were Antique recreations intended for Display only and never for use. The polish was to give it an appealing antique look and the pots were never to be used for brewing tea.
Best wishes from Cheshire
I was going to note earlier that I was not 100% successful with the bleaching. If I was planning on attempting to use the pots, I might try the baking method. However, rather than spend a bunch of time cleaning suspect pots (and maybe not even well), I retired them.kyleshen wrote:Oven temperature is usually not enough, though. Even if you re-kiln it, you don't know what will be left. So, it is your money and it is your life. If you want to spend them on 5000friend, it is your choice. I just offer an sincere suggestion.
