Can you offer any advice on the Emerald Needle? I have only tried it once, but it seemed really bland. I wonder if I didn't use enough leaf. I am missing my japanese greens. :cry:

I usually don't bring anything with me tea-related to work. I'm only here for a few months so I didn't want to bother with it. But when I start working full time though a corner of my desk is going to be dedicated to tea and tea-related things.

Haven't had any tea today (sadly) but I'm going to sit done this evening and finally update my blog.

Well...it is not veggie or intense like Japanese, that is for certain. I am going gram per ounce in a gaiwan for a minute. Playing with temps though. I would think less leaf would make a milder cup.

It definitely comes out very sweet for me. :D

OK i just made some in my 4 oz gaiwan. 4 gm leaf, temp about 170, 3 infusions: 60/40/90. 1st was sort of smoky, 2nd was smoother and more typical Chinese-green-tasting, 3rd was definitely sweet but very delicate.

It's nice, just such a dramatic difference from the Japanese greens. I haven't found any Chinese greens I enjoy nearly as much.

I always bring fresh ground coffee and some teas with me when I travel

I use a 4 cup perk pot to boil water and a filtercone for my morning Joe
The same set up serves me well when its time for my tea. A cheap pyrex covered bowl for brewing and I am all set.

For today-

2007 haiwan Lao cha tou brick , still going strong from yesterday.

I had lousy luck with the Emerald Green as well ... and I really like Chinese greens. This just didn't seem like any of the Chinese greens I have loved.

Yunnan Noir for me at work today also ... all day. And a dark beauty it is too!

Sencha Fukamushi Supreme now and something in a yixing pot later, though it will probably be a normal saline edition rather than the sea water specials that Cheaton references in the Teaware thread.

Its a sample from Scott at YT and its just labeled as 2007 haiwan Lao cha tou brick.
That all I know. I have been working through 10 samples he picked out for me.

Nice to see you 'round these parts Goose.

For light trips I pack a fairly robust 200ml gaiwan, a small cup and some tea samples. I picked the gaiwan for traveling as it was quite sturdy and it wasn't getting much use, after surviving numerous music festivals, camping trips, buses, trains, planes and hotels it's growing on me.
For longer more leisurely occasions I pack the traveling gong fu tray, that includes heading over to friends house for the evening.

'Pronsias tea' gives me a happy.

In my cup: some hot off the press Yunnan Noir from our hosts Adagio. Looks like someone has gunpowdered some Yunnan Gold and in the process given it a wonderful qimen edge.

Hello all! Or should I say good evening? I am sipping once again on my homemade genmaicha......my latest tea order came in today but it is at the post office and I wasnt able to go pick it up :( On a more exciting note, I got word of an actualy decent tea shop about 20 minutes away that sells a myriad of looseleaf as well as a decent selection of both japanese and chinese teaware. I will keep everyone posted of this adventure!

Nick, I am sipping my homemade Mugicha. This is my 2nd attempt at roasting. After a little advice from some midwife in Kentucky, I upped the temp for roasting. DELISHand sweet. I can see how this would be great iced. This will be a staple in the night time for me. And mixed with cheaper sencha in the evening ... or kukicha ... and/or matcha.
