In case this is referencing my comment in ITD about tinychat and booze, I'd like to point out there's a huge difference between tea lovers sometimes discussion artisan beers, hops and brewing techniques (not a far cry from teachatting,) and a bunch of frat boys who haven't left chat in three days driveling on in txt tlk!11!omgbbq!!!1! about their PBR or whatever other dross is passing for "beer" in freshman hall these days.

Nonsense. Sarcasm is my highest level of praise. :D How could I hate the father of my Shuppin Sencha.

Actually, you may be one of the few TeaChatters that no one hates!

Thanks Geekgirl, I find myself talking about beers and brewing in chat with other members on occasion. I find that there is no problem when chatting about other stuff than tea. I mean, I consider you guys my friends and it would just sux if that is all we talked about.

Thanks for the <3 you guys. :)

It just seems like every week or two someone is complaining that we're having too much fun on the IM. I know I'm a bit wild but ultimately I'm not here to cause trouble. It was Andy (Warden) who got me interested in homebrewing so it was natural that the subject came up occasionally. I never quite understood why chatting a little bit about other legal and complex beverages would upset certain folks as much as it seems to. But I guess that's life.

I'll drop by from time to time if I have a new sencha to rave about or something. 8)

Peace.

I didn't know that the beer conversations in the IM were a problem. They seemed very natural to me. There are numerous parallels between tea and beer/wine, and brewing beer only seems all the more a fitting topic for discussion. Its perfectly legal, and furthermore I work in a place where we sell both all the time, what's the problem.

Honestly if there are people complaining about this, I think it is fair to label them as prissy or as prudes. While we do not want to blatantly offend people, I see no reason why the forum or the chat needs to be kept at a G rating. There's a balance, a line, and at some point those who are easily offended may just have to deal. Or look away.

Oh for *freak* sake.

Is there anyone saying that's what the complaints are about?

This is what I mean:

$^%%$^$%!!

o.O

yeah

lol

mmm beer

$$$$!lol

i need a laaay

(.) (.)
(.) (.)

should call my ex

haha

oooh drunk dial!

(.) (.)

this one!

(@) (@)

ftw!

lol

$#%$!!!

4am more beer

Not the exact content, but for several days there were pages and pages of that shit in chat. I got sick of it, and said something about it here. I was not talking about brew talk, or any talk, jsut that.

If that makes me prude or prissy or teamom or easily offended or whatever other shit, fine, you can have it. I'm more than happy to look away. WAY away.

Whoa, didn't mean to piss you off. Maybe I am wrong, and if I am, I gladly take back what I said, but I had the idea that what you just described wasn't what the complaints were about, and that what ed is talking about has been an ongoing thing.

If I am wrong, again I apologize and take it back. Maybe I just missunderstood the situation.

Ahh, a list. Some of that didn't actually mean anything to me at first because I didn't realize the ASCII stuff was private parts.

The gist of what I see there ranges between G-rated levity and juvenile foolishness. Taken as a set, I don't find it offensive or inappropriate. But I don't feel the need to dish out a grave insult to someone else for having a different sentiment.

About the only way I know of to off-set that sort of thing successfully is for people to hang out in IM maintaining a more mature level of dialogue.

Even though I don't find basically any of that stuff offensive, I do nudge people politely when I actually see someone say "shit i forgot to set the tea timer" and such. Not any time in the last few months has anyone responded to the nudge rudely.

Now, I'll be honest with them when they ask why, reminding them that more conservative (TeaMom) eyeballs don't like to see that sort of thing. This has worked out reasonably well as best I can tell, but I don't hold myself responsible for elevating the dialogue to the standards of others who aren't in IM elevating it themselves.

If people spoke up more about this sort of thing, maybe there would be less confusion about what the complaints are in the first place.

I have not received any complaints nor have I registered any with any involved parties as of late regarding the IM.

As Padre mentioned, and I did earlier, a nudge usually works to shift the discussion back when needed. I have seen padre do this several times quite nicely. It is appreciated when ITDers also recognize the nudge and help out.

Not sure why "meat sword" is being used a lot on IM lately, this seems to be a bit disrespectful of what Adagio has done for us in returning the IM as well as their "request" to discontinue such usage. Personally, I do not see the need for references to male genitalia on the IM, seems beneath what I perceive to be the wit and intelligence of the poster.

Just sayin' ...

I can only speak for myself, but when I say it, I usually mean something to the general effect of BWAHAHAHA BRENT GOT BUSTED AND WILL NEVER LIVE IT DOWN! EAT THAT, SUUUCKAAAAAAA!

Ah, the great generosity of returning the chat, I remember those Halcyon days.
The days when I couldn't have someone (responsible for having chat disabled in the first place) banned after weeks of infractions. It is a good thing now that we have some guts, we will ban Brent immediately for a single infraction.

Giant Meat Swords.
