Looks like i forgot to mention..but it may have been obvious..that my Chawan is another example of Cory's sweet work!Salsero wrote:I am also loving all the great pictures in here. It's sort of becoming the DRINK MORE MATCHA thread.twinofmunin wrote: iannon, that is gorgeous! Thanks for sharing.
Funny, a couple years ago almost no one in TeaChat drank matcha ... I assumed it was a weird and noxious concoction that was too bitter and unpleasant for anything except the Japanese tea ceremony.
I remember Chip mentioning drinking it and I thought, "What an enormous sacrifice just to say you have tried all kinds of tea."

It's here
Ok to quote Cory "Whoa"
Now this is my first chawan, yet upon opening the box, while still bubble-wrapped it
has that feel that a good tool has in spades.
Balance and fit that come only in truly well made utensils/tools.
Pics will follow, the light is Horrible today.......
Now all I need is my Ocha order, it's been 1 week.
Jeez I ordered sincha&matcha before Cory extended his gifts (ESP)
But right now I have to find a chasen too.
Cory, your generosity is humbling.

hey everyone,
cory, sorry i haven't posted before now...the chawan actually arrived last monday but i've been out of town and just got back last night.
without further adieu...

supurb kodai!

i believe i got a wood fired shino chawan. i don't believe the pool in the bottom is glass in this one, but rather formed as minerals from the wood in the smoke and ash collected on the sides (facing the wind??) and liquified...dripping down into the bottom. please correct me if i'm wrong.
this piece really captured a lot of the energy from the wood...which came directly from the sun. i'm reminded of this energy when i look in the bottom of the bowl and see the sparkling green pool reflecting light back up to me...passing it along.
i love it! THANKS CORY!! this give was so nice of you..i don't know what to say. hey, i'll look you up and buy you a beer when i make it to hawaii after i graduate (if that ever happnes
)!

Accurate or not, that's a beautiful description of the piece. Thanks for the photos and the thoughts.Smells_Familiar wrote: i believe i got a wood fired shino chawan. i don't believe the pool in the bottom is glass in this one, but rather formed as minerals from the wood in the smoke and ash collected on the sides (facing the wind??) and liquified...dripping down into the bottom. please correct me if i'm wrong.

thanks guys.
actually, i don't really know what i'm talking about. now i'm thinkin it may be soda fired..whatever...but i'm almost certain the pool is all ash. i thought it was probably wood fired at first because all of the pieces that i own that have the emerald "celadon" pools or drips were wood fired. i need to educate myself more about ceramics, haha.

OMG I miss all the good stuff!!! Cory, the gift pieces are all absolutely gorgeous... what a great gesture on your part, and what a good way to spread the tea-ware bug to the rest of us!
Smells Familiar... yours is just so lovely... my favorite I think. Congrats!
