Re: The unofficial, official HAGI topic!
It has been too long since anyone shared any Hagi. Soooo, Mukuhara Kashun Guinomi, quite shuweet if I may say so myself. Kashun is quite divergent from the more commonly seen Deishi and Seigan. His works are pretty unique and different, and often one offs, as is this one. Lots of crackles that seem to defy its youth, looks like an ancient piece.

Re: The unofficial, official HAGI topic!
Oh very nice! Almost an opalescent in the glaze?
Looks like you beat me to it as I have my first Kashun on the way!

Thanks, it is a great piece. Hmmm, opalescent, not exactly, hard to put this one to words. It is like an ancient cup carved from stone, even has this feel in touch and heft. So colorful too.
2 more Kashun on their way here! "Ippaku-Wan," mid sized bowls. I think these will get a lot of use.
I am looking forward to seeing your Kashun soon.

Cool cups, Chip and Victoria!
Chip, that cup looks like it already has an "old soul". I think it needs to be used either outside in the sunshine or inside by the fireplace.
And Victoria, that cup literally looks cool, perfect for green tea on a warm day!
Thanks for the pictures...the wide variety of Hagi-ness is fascinating!
Have fun,

Hey Victoria, allow me to preface this by saying that "I love icing, especially Buttercream icing!" Ask the Mod, disgusting as it is, I have been know to make a small bowl of it and just eat it plain, without cake.
Your newest Hagi, reminds me of a bowl of icing, especially the inside with that kewel thick glaze on the one side. Very, very different.
Mukuhara Kashun is clearly may fave right now for Japanese Teawarz, and I just adore our collection of his works. You've picked up a really nice piece.

Thanks Mrs. Chip!
I see it more as a snow drift across granite cliffs.
Now, I have a Seigan that reminds me of icing. Most definitely.
I've been watching Kashun guinomi on several sites,
he definitely commands high prices, as guinomi usully do I guess.
I decided this was a good starting piece. I'm very pleased.
Gad you like it too!

More Hagi!! I am having a lot of trouble capturing the beauty of this new piece with my old camera. This is a guinomi, quite small, but truly beautiful. The glaze is blue and green and then covered by a layer of clear, that makes it look like water. The effect is beautiful, I wish I could capture it better.
The artist is Noutomi Naoko, a daughter of Noutomi Susumu. You can see the relationship in the color and glaze technique.

Welcome to the new Noutomi fan club. 3 more enroute. I am a big fan of Noutomi's Choun Kiln and the Hagi emanating from there, both Susumu the father and Naoko the daughter.

Thanks for the tip, I guess I should try that. Not sure if anything will help this old camera, been looking at getting a new one soon.
