If it's anywhere over $40.... no, it's far too ugly
IMHO a lower price doesn't make it any less ugly.
I concur. Not my cup of tea...
These on the other hand, kind of cool:

Bizen Beer Cups from Inbeya... perhaps we should chip in and get one for Ed?

I actually rather like it, although I wish it wasn't indented at the "waist".
Seriously, I'm tempted to buy one just to see what my tea sensei would say. I do think that the whisked matcha could look pretty nice when see through the sides.
This reminds me of a chawan I saw among kofudo_jp's listings, back when Junko-san was just "kofudo". It was an aka-raku chawan, and it really looked like the real thing except... it was made of plastic! At the time I hesitated, and it was gone. What was I thinking?! As a conversation piece alone, it would have been priceless.

Lol been there, done that. I placed the order as soon as I got the email newsletter. Pics will come as soon as it comes.
As far as the size, it is a bit on the small side, but at the same time I have another one of roughly the same size. It does feel small, but it's not unmanageable. I have both mini chasen and full size chasen and both work just fine with it.

Very, very mean. I saw that and instantly went into WANT mode. Alas,
at $195, I'll be wanting for a very long time.

I've been seeing that crystalization pattern on a number of sets for a while now. I've been trying to find some that are either by the piece or just not ludicrously expensive for a while now. Unfortunately most of the places i've seen it I know are marking it way up.

Well you don't have to use the infuser basket, I have 2 this style and I don't. It gets in the way. I have seen this style referred to as a modern gaiwan.
That looks pretty dead on chamekke.

I'm pretty sure all these links are to the same product. Just goes to show you what the profit margins are like at some of these stores.
Sadly the one that i've been looking for is a western style set, Teavana offered it about a year ago, but it appears they don't carry it anymore. I didn't feel like shelling out 100 bucks at a teavana for it either.

That blue crystal pattern on a white base would be fantastic

Yes, a white base would be beautiful.
Even this "white on white" from Jing UK, is actually white on creamy beige.
Disappointing.
