Ahh, iced tea. I should try that. So far, I haven't been able to take too much of jasmine teas. I'm just overwhelmed by the perfume of it all. Being iced would probably help reduce the feeling that I'm drowning in vapors...
That's the other thing about Serenity Art's jasmine is that they're not perfumy. They seem to be more naturally scented than flavored, and it's done with good tea to begin with.

Camphor is just a way of describing a flavor. Its almost a menthol or minty taste in the back of the throat. I don't think that this actually implies the actual presence of "camphor" in any way shape or form.

Camphor isn't the same as minty

by Intuit » Jul 13th, '09, 00:49

But both are known to occur in oolongs (an puerhs from Yunnan).

A minty smell or flavor is perhaps caused by the presence of methyl salicylate.

While I found *specific* mention of germanium in teas from the plantation from which your tea is derived, I can also believe that highly aromatic camphor lindens growing nearby could also be a source of distinct camphor notes in a particular tea.

Methyl salicylate in tea:

Cis- and trans-linalool 3,7-oxides and methyl salicylate glycosides and (Z)-3-hexenyl β-D-glucopyranoside as aroma precursors from tea leaves for oolong tea.

Several recent articles (2006-07) suggest that methyl salicylate is possibly produced as a natural anti-fungal agent in tea, again under specific induction conditions. Therefore, it wouldn't be present in all teas.

Quite interesting chemistry.

Finally got it.

Picked up the oolong pass box last evening. Looking forward to opening and exploring a bit the next few days.

PM to EBToulson for her snail mail addy.

Edit: EB is taking a pass due to timing issues.

Garrett PMed, although he/she hasn't been active on TC since March 09.

Well Intuit, take your time. It seems most of the folks at the bottom, aren't ready to get the box right now.

leiche or Shogun may be next.

Reconsideration.

by Intuit » Jul 16th, '09, 12:51

EB has wisely reconsidered time management issues typical for the start of classes next month, and shall provide an alternative addy upon request, should Garrett fail to respond in a period deemed reasonable and sufficient.

I have reordered the list. Again people, please take your time with the box. We are nearing the end now and several of the remaining people are not quite ready to receive it.

Slow down and enjoy!

Hey folks.

Just an fyi: I had to re-register because my account and all my posts were lost during the forum upgrade. I thus have no access to any PMs that may have been sent before today. I'm the same old leiche!

PM sent to Intuit with my mailing address.

Definitely looking forward to playing around in a box full of oolong. Seriously.

(I feel weird now--I don't technically meet the req's anymore because of the re-registration, but I've really been a member since '06! Hmph.)

I've just been informed by Intuit that Ebtoulson is next in line, not me. Guess I'll send my addy to Eb, then. Hunh.

Oopps sorry leiche!! Ebtoulson had asked to be moved down, but I guess
in the meantime decided a temporary address would work just fine.
I guess it's not your week! On the bright side, it has to get better, right?
:)
