WOW!!,

Chip, that's an amazing chawan! LOVE the shot with the gong! (seriously -my mouth is agape).
Today Robert Fornell's Tengu chawan called. Sage blossoms were invited along.
Den's matcha miyabi today - and, yes, for my taste, miyabi likes the water HOT.

Cheers.

I think that my Ron Mello chawan is my favorite matcha chawan. The size is perfect, it is open and flattish on the bottom and the shape makes it easy to hold. The only problem is the matcha color is not well complimented. But it looks great with my chasen. heh

Just beautiful, Victoria. I'm still sad about my cracked Mello Chawan. I've mentioned that I bought another in the turquoise/coffee glaze, but it's not quite as lovely as the first one. Still, I'll have to get it into the rotation. I suppose I'm (relatively) over it now.
P.S. I'm really jealous of your dark bamboo chasen and your dark tea tray and your dark hand-turned stand.

Sorry to bring up painful memories Geek! I do remember you saying you saying some thing about the cracked Mello, do you have a pic of it? When I bought this one I was thinking you would really like it. When I went to his online store I knew I had been there before. Maybe a link you had provided, but I didn't remember at the time.
As for the dark wood - in case others are interested the tray is from Andao, the chasen from Yuuki-Cha and the stand from an Etsy artisan. Anyone interested PM me.

Back at school and first tea was matcha, as I have a feeling matcha is the quickest to expire of all my teas. So I made some Koicha with the Wakamatsu.

Me too (jealous/envious of your teaware V).
Nice pic - I've considered getting a Mello, but none of the ones I've looked at grab me so far (haven't looked in awhile either).
GG - checked that link.

- I just
luuuuv your shots. Wow.
I'm especially enamored of that one of the chawan tilted on its side on the plate with the blue glass pattern - looks like maybe some special mystical matcha spilled out and became a shimmering pool of magic!
Adam - great shot! Really nice chawan.
Gosh, I just love seeing all these beautiful and varied chawan and their matcha.
...sated sigh.

so our local college museum is having an exhibit from a private collection on Chinese art. So lots of nice cool stuff and then BAM! wow..a Song Dynasty Hare Fur Tea Bowl. The label says how popular it became especially in Japan and was expotred there. Mostly black and brown and probably held about 6 to 8 oz. i would say. very "V" shaped with a decorative indention all around the rim and a nice big foot and with lots of heavy dripping glaze around the bottom above the foot. i WISH I could have sneaked a picture but I didnt have an opportunity....
edit: ok..wow..so i actually found a pic of said tea bowl while surfing around the internet tonight:
here it is

Wonder how many cups of tea it has served up in the past thousand years?!
