before firing I can see beauty in these bowls and the way the glaze is applied with straw (?) just fix on them . It seems to be soft, gentle, like a breeze over a earth ground. I like these images.

thank you kindly gingko
later this evening, unloading begins. the fun part is to see what serendipitous magic happened from flames dancing and kissing earth.
fun !

I'm looking forward to seeing the results. I really like the carved surfaces, they look like they would be a lot of fun to hold and drink out of.

So, no glaze on these, similar to an unglazed mogake?
Great looking works, cory.

chip
thank you !
y. well no applied glaze. but soda is considered a glaze which is added to the kiln while firing. the above two pieces are mostly bare clay with slight blushing of soda ash. it wasn't in a heavy soda spray area on purpose. i was thinking that if it was in a high soda ash zone the hidatsuki would not be as apparent.
much like wood firing . where pieces receive natural fly ash which creates a 'glaze'. like the piece below. no glaze. only natural wood fly ash which adheres to the pot when firing for many days. usually from 3-14 days firing.
cheers

Holy moly, Cory, this is gorgeous, I love the orange cream look of the shino, and the ash glaze is stunning.
