for your enjoyment !
cheers !
have a wonderful day !
yesterday was wonderful ! i had the opportunity to view some song dynasty 13th century (960-1279) pieces. one amazing hares fur teabowl form and a smaller oilspot tenmoku glaze. both pieces were amazing to hold ! yes, i was able to hold them. usually they are behind glass in the museum. i wish i could post photographs, unfortunately, the deal was photographs ok, no posting anywhere.
the oilspot tenmoku piece was about 3.00 to 4.00-inches in diameter and about 1.5 inches high. the oilspots were very definitive and clear. according to the curator, both of these pieces were probably used as vessels for medicine and likely, the oilspot piece was in the royal households.
cheers
i'm inspired in the quest of oilspot tenmoku

Cory,
Wow, I am quite taken by your carving and altering of the chawan.
Truly stunning pieces emerge.
Cheers.
I wonder what matcha would look like in that "floating" black w/ gold
chawan?

thanks seeker !
wow. the black glaze was challenging. 3-4 loads. this last load i applied too much glaze, finally figured that 'less is more'.
i tossed many a bowl and large platter. it was all bubbly. totally unsalvageable. such is life sometimes. many of the other chawan were all bubbly and pitted.
this was the only bowl w/correct glaze application. cool reduction caused the gold flakes to form. like the late fall gingko trees yellow leaves falling in the moon less night.
cheers !
