Happy to help!!
Put the leaf in the thermos, then the basket/filter should click into place (approximately where the double wall meets at the neck of the thermos.) Over this goes the lid and the gasket (inside the lid.) Drink directly from the thermos if you want, I do, and I think that's what it's made for. Add water when there is only about a third left. After adding the leaf and getting the filter screen in place I just pour water through the filter for the rest of the day.
I hope that helps. I can take some photos if that would be a better help.

My Black Dragon Pearls came in today! I was thinking of throwing a few into my thermos so I can get a really good look at the leaf as it opens. I'll take some pics!

Here's a fast pic I took with my phone, hope the quality is ok...

The little handle is just so you can pluck it out easily.

Ah, I see, thanks! Part of my problem was that I wasn't pushing down on the filter to secure it in place well enough. It was just in there loose, which didn't make much else.

Well, then, I will give it a go tomorrow. I guess I'll clean it out tonight and prep it w/ leave tomorrow and then give it a whirl. Should be interesting!

I hope you like it. The filter is a pretty clever/simple device. I even very slightly bent the prongs which hold the filter into the glass outward, just to make the fit a little more snug. It's doesn't have to hold back much though (just some wet leaf), and I notice most of the teas I've had in the thermos wind up on the bottom, so the filter's job is that much easier.
Let me know what you think. May the Force be with you.

Well, the first day at work was a success! I got to enjoy 4 fill-ups of tea during the day, and it certainly got of lot of comments.

Tea green tea I used produced a powerful first brew, but successive brews were pretty weak. Leaves took up about 1/4th of the volume of the inner container after re-hydrated. I guess I'll have to do a lot of testing, which is not a bad thing... :D

Sounds great, Drax. What kind of green tea did you use?

Drax, glad you liked your first go with the thermos!
If it got weak fast on you, try more leaf?
I use three of those scoops I posted pics of, and that'll last me through a 10-hour-shift. I looked for a green I liked that I can afford a lot of, and that's my thermos tea. Something I won't feel bad about going through fast, and using a lot of. lol
Have fun.
May the Force be with you.

I used the "green tea -- organic yellow mountain mao feng, soft"

So i really have no clue what it is.

I tried to go off of the pictures of the bamboo scoop... I used about 5 big pinches, so it was a decent amount. I'll just have to play around with it more. Maybe I'll try the "white tea -- light" (again... ????) tomorrow.

The samples from Xiu Xian are maybe about a 1/5 of the amount of leaf I've been using. I was really hard to make myself put a lot it. Kind of a big commitment for me at first, using a lot of leaf, and being unsure of the outcome. Trust me though, just go for it, throw a lot in. After the leaves expand, they usually fill one 1/2 to 3/4 of my thermos. With water/tea in there as well, the thermos looks FULL of leaf, it's awesome to see!
Totally worth it though, it lasts ALL day :)
Next time I use the thermos, I'll take a pic showing how high I fill it with leaf.

Oh wow, yeah that's pretty full. I thought I was going pretty full with it being 1/4 full after rehydrating. Boy, I must have some mental block on using enough leaf or something :D

Anyway, I'll give that a go this morning. Actually, I'm going to try the white tea today. I'll re-try the green tea tomorrow.

I'd be interested in how you think the white tea did as well, Drax. Looking forward to your opinion.

It's been working well! I've already managed to ding the lid, but I'm glad it was the lid and not the body, because it would have surely cracked.

Before you posted the above picture showing how much you fill it up, I tried one where I filled it maybe 3x as much. Not surprisingly, it was terrible.

Regardless, that does appear to be one area where I am having trouble -- I don't like drinking stuff boiling hot... so I have to balance having an over-brewed first cup, with too-weak second+ cups...

I just ordered the 16 oz one from dth
I chose the biggest size because sometimes I go without a good hot water source for a while when I am out and about
Anyone try a dth glass thermos? The only thing that might be an issue for me is the possible plastic lining on the underside of the lid, made of maybe silicon?
Anyone experience an odd plastic taste from theirs?

Do the Xiu Xian thermoses have plastic on the underside of the lid too?
