ordered a little bit to hopefully tide me over till shincha. chose Maiko mostly because they seem to be one of the few vendors offering SAL shipping. EMS is not worth it for small orders.

Thanks for the heads up. I missed the sale last year, but this year I was able to order the Yamashita Gyokuro Sampler and the Karigane Tenkaichi special.

That's why I ordered this particular Karigane as well as the gyo sampler. I found with O-Cha that I enjoyed their Asa-Giri, which is a gyo Karigane, more than the less expensive gyos. I'll do the same comparison here.

"Funner" yet to build to a crescendo.

The entry level is passable, getting better and better to the top notch. I would want to know which is the one costing something like two bucks USD PER GRAM. Still am affordable indulgence albeit when only getting an 8 gram sample.

It has been a few years since I did the sample set and 8 grams is only one attempt at each ... but the top notch one was the best by my recollection. Is it worth $2.28 a gram. I have pondered that numerous times and have not taken the plunge. It probably is worth it ...

Again, it has been a few years ... it was good. But at the end of the day it is kukicha and genmai powdered with match with kelp thrown in. I was actually not able to really notice the kelp.

Haven't tried them all, yet, but Yashiki no Cha is tops, so far. Worth the price? Not IMO.

Here is the 'low-end' gyokuro, Yamashita Jirushi. I wasn't impressed by this one.
