Often overlooked, the lid rest is a standard piece of equipment within the Korean tea set. This one is made by Choi Min Rok, a younger colleague of Hong Seong il.

My Favorite Korean tea storage jar by "Cat, One, Turtle". Occupied with 'Korean Pureh at the moment. Love to know how the Artist looks like~ T

A couple of cups from a set of 6 I purchased from Seong il. Maybe 60ml each. The blue glaze is restricted to the exterior so the tea color can be enjoyed. I liked the contrast of the 2 colors and bought 3 of each. Perfect for tea, sake, soju, or, whiskey. Sturdy, good for throwing at non-tea drinking friends!

Glad that you like it IPT. Its a traditional glaze and (ring layer) onggi process, but the style its somewhat artistic (modern)? The size is around 8 x 8 inches. ~T

Interesting Notes from www.hanchatea.com:

Korea's early tea culture was so closely identified with Buddhism that when it was replaced by Confucianism as the country's primary religion/philosophy at the end of the Goryeo dynasty in the 14th century, tea drinking and customs were also repressed at the same time along with Buddhist customs.

When the invading Japanese of the 1590s forced hundreds of the finest Korean potters to work in Japan, tea became more associated with Japan rather than Korea. In fact, many of the finest bowls used in Japanese tea ceremonies were made in Korea or were produced by potters of Korean descent.

Ancient texts dating back some 5,000 years reference PaeksanCha - white mountain tea and other teas indigenous to Korea and legends that surrounded them. However, it is generally accepted that Korean tea traces its roots to the Gaya Kingdom (42 to 532 AD), which existed just before the period of the Unified Three Kingdoms.
