I'm glad to see the discussion is going fiercely. Here are 3 more photo's of the Hisayuki. I posted them in reverse order from top to bottom so these 3 fit together.
Its seems they don't fit seamless. Not sure what went wrong, ah well. Look at that hamon. I'm not quiet sure but i believe those wrinkly lines moving out of the hamon into and out of again are called kinsuji.

Hey quick update here.
I (more or less) decided after quite a while, on the colors of the silk for the tsuka and the sageo (the knot on the saya).
I decided months ago, and pushed for a Ishime lacquered saya. Its dark brown in color. My idea was to have the tsuka created in a similar color of darkened brown over the white rayskin underneath, so it looks as if the saya continues. And because 1. the fuchi & kashira contain some gold parts, flowers and vines, i was thinking about a dark purple sageo in contrast to the gold and dark brown tints.
Something like below, though imagine a dark purple sageo (makes about anything look royal:)! (- and some gold tints on the f/k)

I remember seeing a documentary on the color purple and how it was cultivated to be the color of the riches. It had to do with shellfish fluids, or something along those lines, making it quite expensive. Today its most likely a lot cheaper to reproduce, although the image has been imprinted, for me at least its that for a royal/formal activity.Pig Hog wrote:Looks good. I've been thinking about green, sorry about the late response.
I received some sad news, the goto school fuchi (dai one, not sho), doesn't fit the hisayuki blade, apparantly its too large, which means i'll have to see about finding a new daisho set which does fit (and fits the tsuba, which is prepared for the tachi). Also i was shown the f/k and menuki (which are both goto school) together, knowing the f/k don't fit, we might not be able to source a goto school flower/vine set f/k that does fit and also goes with the current menuki:/ So that was kind of dissapointing news. This also means the colors for the tsuka and sageo are set still for now. I"m a afraid this will take a while.
But still, the hisayuki tachi will be worth it, i still can't imagine holding that enormous chuck of killing force, let alone the responsibility that comes with having something like that in your house:)

OK wow.. I've neglected this topic a little bit. Update time!
To start off, the seller gave me the option to switch the Nagamichi wakizashi for a o-wakizashi by Hisayuki! Even though the lacquerwork had been started on the saya! He managed to sell the Nagamichi is a very short period after this. Right now, the artisan is working on the saya for the o-wakizashi in the same style as the tachi's. So right now it has become a daisho by the same smith, which is really nice (also for resale value).
The tachi was made when the smith was 75 years of age (and still working for Dai Tokugawa), the wakizashi was made 6 years later, when Hisayuki was 81 years of age. If I'm not mistaken the wakizashi has been granted Tokubetsu Hozon by the ntbhk.
When i was told about the opportunity to go for a pair by the same smith, i was also told that the wakizashi has a good chance to receive Yushuto status as well (next December). That would really be the cream on top of the cake.

It has been quite a while, from November 11th 2013 to last week's Monday when i first received half the daisho set.
I received the wakizashi by Hisayuki first, the tachi was kept in customs for about 2 weeks because apparantly it lacked evidence to support it was a traditionally handmade japanese sword.. But either way, its been cleared now and is in transit somewhere in the UK.
Now i've been thoroughly stunned by the beauty of the wakizashi, where i first looked up to the tachi the most, without having seen it i have a much deeper appreciation of the wakizashi (middle sword).
I have made a bunch of photo's this morning, viewing it in the bright morning sun. I hope you enjoy
