I supported this motion before I was against it.Salsero wrote:Despite having suggested it, I agree with you Padre.El Padre wrote:Before it actually happens, I'd like to take this moment to say I'm not ecstatic about overly zealous thread locking.Salsero wrote:You know, it might be time to petition Mary to come in and do one of her famous, thread locking maneuvers.
Yeah, I'm actually trying to get more mellow about thread locking and such. Cultivating the zen approach to life.
But this post was to rave about the cicada pic! I love, love, love, LOVE cicadas! I understand this love is a weird one, so I'll stop before I tell long stories of childhood summers spent collecting buckets of cicada shells...but yeah. I do love me some cicada.
And in the Hoosier state, they're popularly eaten sautéed in butter and garlic. Haven't tried that yet, though.

"In the archives of The New York Times, which go back to 1851, the earliest unequivocal mention of "flip-flop" as a change in someone's opinion, is in an October 23, 1890, report of a campaign speech in New York City. John W. Goff, candidate for district attorney, said of one of his opponents: "I would like to hear Mr. Nicoll explain his great flip-flop, for three years ago, you know, as the Republican candidate for District Attorney, he bitterly denounced Tammany as a party run by bosses and in the interest of bossism. [...] Nicoll, who three years ago was denouncing Tammany, is its candidate to-day."[3]brandon wrote:I supported this motion before I was against it.
The term was also used in 1967, when a New York Times editorial and Times columnist Tom Wicker both used it in commenting on different events, and in the 1976 election, President Gerald Ford used the phrase against his opponent Jimmy Carter.[4] In the 1988 U.S. presidential election, Michael Dukakis used the term against opponent Richard Gephardt, saying, "There's a flip-flopper over here", pointing at Gephardt.[2]"
Let's decide which is worse, responses that are too short, (neat!) or responses that are too long

I thought I'd tack on my own little apology rather than start a new thread. I'm sorry for getting myself (temporarily, I hope) banned from the chat by being inappropriate, especially as I have been so adamant that we should be able to censor ourselves. I feel hypocritical and embarrassed, and when I regain my chat privileges I will do my best to remember my place.

I don't know what in particular earned me the ban, but I did let myself go for a while there, even though I knew I was out of line. Sorry guys.Salsero wrote:Are you serious?
