By the way, today I saw a gaiwan for sale In Real Life for the first time in a tea shop. It was your basic white model. Unfortunately, all three of that model had very ill-fitting lids. Is this typical of that type of gaiwan?
No, it is only typical of low quality gaiwans. I have a simple white gaiwan I bought from Stephane Erler. The gaiwan was not expensive at all (less than 10$) and the lid fits well.
