Funny you should post the list of historical Yancha names. I was just looking at this last night in 池宗宪(Teaparker's) book on Yancha last night. He seems to have the exact same list. I was just thinking I should memorize it. ;)

What do you think Tieluohan was like during the Song dynasty? Do you figure they made it into tea cakes like everything else?

Of course what I meant was 三坑两澗 San Keng Liang Jian, known as Zheng Yan Cha area.

But without knowing differences of each bushes (for example, Zhu Qiang Yan Qiang Ke's Tie Luo Han's most famous), know-how of each factories or tongue that could differentiate the difference, road to Wuyi Yancha just seems too far :( ..I haven't even been to Wuyi Shan myself :)

OMG! I found a super cheap DHP which has very passable quality! I got it from TNT (a suburban Chinese grocery in Toronto), 200g for about $6. The reason I bought it - in my own experience, this is the cheapest DHP whose package doesn't look like a joke. I am trying it now and to my surprise it has quite healthy leaves and the taste is very passable for a commercial DHP. It's very likely a blend of shui xian and rou gui, and very likely from out of the central wuyi region, but so are many other DHP products several times of this price :P This one, at least it doen't have any offensive flavor and actually very pleasant. I think it's as good as some other products I tried that are a lot more expensive than it.

I later found the same product on alibaba, a whole sale trade website:

Interestingly, the alibaba price is a lot higher than Toronto price. This is not the first time I've seen some Chinese stuff in Toronto that is cheaper than in China. I never figured out how they did it!

The brand name is "sea dyke", product number XT936. I highly recommend it, if you see it in some Chinese grocery. :D
