When does Ippodo start listing shincha? I really want to try something from them, since I've had such good experiences with my other Ippodo orders.
As I recall, Ippodo offers one special edition shincha, and makes no other hoopla about it.

Their sencha carries on as usual and do not actually switch over til very late summer or so... and don't look for any notification of this change over. They try to create a seemless offering of similar product through extensive blending from harvest to havest. Kind of like sugar or whatever, you buy the product and brand name, not the harvest.

Ooooh, I'm glad I asked. That means I can spend more elsewhere. :D

More precisely ...
Chip wrote:1) I have read that you offer special releases of shincha.
Can you tell me when that will be?
Ippodo wrote:>>>>It will be around the middle of the May, it may be
around 15 or so this year. It was around 18th of May last year.
so a little bit early but not that early as we actually
expected before. Weather in March in Kyoto area was actually
not that warm although it was very warm in February.
I am sure I will let you know it is ready by email!
Chip wrote:2) I have also heard that your regular sencha listings are changed over to new harvest,
but not sold as shincha since
these are your regular offerings through out the year.
Can you tell me when this occurs? And how will I know
that these have been changed over to new harvest?
Ippodo wrote:>>>>Thank you for your deep understanding to our Ippodo tea.
Ippodo tea has to be in a certain quality and keep the
taste for the whole year, so we actually try our best
not let our people who drink our tea notice
when was the time to change.
But anyway, usually it is around after summer.
These is a reason for the timing, after one summer,
it means early autumn, the tea becomes more and more
" full-bodied" (even Sencha, not just Gyokuro and Matcha).
That is the time to add the year's May harvested tea
to our regular Sencha gradually. " Time " and (blend)
makes our tea more mature and mild. And in the end
whenever you drink our tea, the taste is constant.
Thus, much like a constant brand name offering throughout the year ...

Anyone else have this pot?
I have that pot and it works excellent for me (mostly fukas and gyo). Hatsumi is a great choice.

The Yame Grokuro won't be picked fresh at the same time as the shincha crop, I believe gyokuro is usually sold about a year behind sencha due to it benefiting from a bit of ageing.

There are shincha gyokuro, but gyokuro is traditionally aged around 6 months, the Yame is aged at least 6 months prior to release.

TBH, I have never been inclined to order shincha gyokuro, pretty closed minded of me perhaps, but I just do not feel inclined to do so.

The Gyokuro is from 2008... I'm not even sure if they sell early 2009. It was just something that's difficult to get around here that I could bundle with the Shincha purchase :)

More than likely I will try this and then purchase a fresh Gyokuro later this year. I'm pretty new to Gyokuro, so it didn't matter to me what I tried first. I'm quite fond of matcha though, which is why I bundled in some gyokuro.

Just heard from Rishi ..they are currently not sure whether they will be bringing in any shincha yet or not but are supposed to let me know if they do ;)

Okay so Chip was very nice to tell me to repost this on shincha post!
-----------------------

Hello again!

I used to prefer only the strong, deep flavored teas like fukamushi sencha, yukata midori, etc and didn't really like the light flavored ones. The only more subtle tea I liked was dragon well.

However, for some unknow reason I want to move and try asamushi tea. I've tried Chinese and Korean teas before, but never tried asamushi type of sencha (only read about those in reviews and blogs lol)

Since it's a shincha season, I thought I'd order some asamushi shincha for a change! Any recommandations on some great asamushi shinchas? (price doesn't matter since I am ordering only 2-3 shinchas) I think Kirameki from O-cha was asamushi sencha but I am not sure. Also, does anyone know if Hashiri or Hachiju Hachiya shinchas from Sugimoto are asamushi or fukamushi?

Many thanks again to all the awesome people on this forum!! :D

Whoa ... deja vu all over again ...

In answer to your question, the Kirameki and Hashiri are asa. Den's will offer another asa shincha special edition as well.

I'm busy narrowing down my choices for a fukamushi (or two) to add to my orders, but decided I need a fuka-friendly teapot first. My kyusu has a sasame filter that doesn't really work well with little leaf pieces. Is a metal screen-type filter a safe bet? I'm eyeing a couple at Rishi...

I use metal screen for fukamushi..I got mine for o-cha (although if i waited a little longer I could have got it from Den's 9$ deal one)

It works perfectly fine, except the metal mesh does get clogged time to time and you need tooth brush or some sort to clean it out (pain in the ass).

Cherylopal has it. Says she loves it.
I have been looking at that pot myself, nice little pot - love the large lid, and you can't beat the price.

I must have missed Cheryl's post on it. I'll check teaware. I'd like to see a real life pic of it.
