FYI, I made great effort to find an equivalent - tried 8 of them before choosing. You might be not so disappointed...tortoise wrote:I hope to taste something similar to the YM LE 2010 someday. Very sad it isn't available this year.

I would be curious to hear comparisons as well. I've been drinking the 2011 YM shincha, and it's pretty spectacular.Chesslover wrote:+1tortoise wrote:I hope to taste something similar to the YM LE 2010 someday. Very sad it isn't available this year.

Anyone tried this years YM shincha? How does it compare to last years? And how does it compare to sae midori shincha 2011?
And, although I did also get the Sae Midori, I am waiting to break into that until I finish the YM...

This year's selection is good. I didn't mean to express disappointment with the vendor. Doesn't everyone miss something they really liked when it's gone?Kevangogh wrote:FYI, I made great effort to find an equivalent - tried 8 of them before choosing. I absolutely agree. It doesn't taste the same as year's YM LE but it is VERY good. In fact, I may even like it better than last year's YM LE (sencha version). It's been months since I last had that one, though.Drax wrote:I would be curious to hear comparisons as well. I've been drinking the 2011 YM shincha, and it's pretty spectacular.
Kevin definitely chose an outstanding Yutaka Midori for this year! Thank you!
I have not opened the Sae Midori yet, either, so I can't compare them yet. However, in my opinion, Sae Midori and Yutaka Midori each have a very distinct flavor so I don't think you can really compare the two anyway.

Uji shincha from Ippodo. 1st steep: 4g/4oz,150F, 60s. 2nd steep: 160F, 20s. 3rd steep: 175F, 90s. Brewing vessel was my Hagi houhin.
A near-perfect balance of sweet and astringent. Rating: 9/10.

Ordered April 20th, shipped May 10th, received May 21st (standard shipping, not EMS).
I know the feeling, I had maybe 10 grams of sencha left when my shincha order arrived. I'm sure you'll get it soon.

Re: What GREEN are you currently drinking?
Today I brewed a Japanese green called "Fuji" from my local tea shop. Whether nor not it's actually sencha is kind of up in the air (fruitless google search).
The first two brews were nothing special, but the third revealed a seriously sweet, candy like liquor. It was as if I actually added brown sugar to the tea. It was pretty terrific, actually.

Last of my Maiko Maruyama. As far as sencha goes, there's going to be nothing but shincha for awhile now that that's finished.

Iced Hojicha de Ippodo.
I'm really impressed by this bancha. Very rich and buttery.
