Great new Hagi, Adam. I hope you enjoy. How much volume does that BIG Kyusu hold?
I hope you enjoy your SO #9 Sansai Tebineri!

Re: The unofficial, official HAGI topic!
the Sansai i got was one of the large ones, which seems to be just wide enough to act as a make shift chawan. And to tell you the truth in the process of using it twice for matcha, cleaning it, and waiting for the kettle to boil for me to make tea for the family, I probably eyed ever single millimeter of my Sansai hundreds of times, and I must say they are spectacular.
Here are some pics... The matcha seems to adhere to the cracks though, but washes and rubs away easily after use.

I am intrigued by this, Adam. Can you tell us how you seasoned, and how you prepped for this Matcha session? Thanks.AdamMY wrote:the Sansai i got was one of the large ones, which seems to be just wide enough to act as a make shift chawan. Beautifully named, Iannon. I wonder if it will still weap after the CS treatment?iannon wrote:Posted a different pic of this one i the show off thread along with another cup that wasnt a Hagi..so..thought I would post some close ups here. I am not a fan of the vast majority of the Gohonde I have seen, but this is a great one, I quite like it! If I am successful in conveying this to the powers that be, I could see an SO in the future.

Weeping is ok, leaking is not. I am a little sad now that I finally got my biwa to stop leaking. Now it feels like I choked the life out of it and it is dead. It's a sad thing.

I soaked it for from about 3pm till 9 am, then set it out to dry for a bit. Then for my matcha I preheated then made matcha as usual. I sorta have a theory as to why it adhered basically only to the cracks. It involves the fact that the cracks are not smooth like the rest of the glaze as in some part is probably raised slightly or has a slightly rough edge. This I think caused the leaf bits to get caught on the outside edge of the crack. That would also explain how they were easily rubbed away with a little bit of water.

That should natually slow down some as time goes on.iannon wrote:Heh..that pic was taken AFTER an initial CS treatment..so yes it is still weeping right now..just not leaking like a sieve!Victoria wrote:Weeping is ok, leaking is not. I like that quality actually, just use a chataku and you'll be fine.
I would not re-treat.
BTW, weeping fawn is so beautifully poetic.

Sometimes I wondered if I was being greedy or foolish to buy three of the Ice Splits...but then I got them in the mail and I quickly changed my mind.

Of course, two (actually, maybe just one
) will be gifted to a friend(s)

Re: The unofficial, official HAGI topic!
Well, here's a little bit of fun for today. I have to admit I haven't yet used my Deishi loquat biwa, other than to pour cold water in it when I received it to check for leaks. IIRC, I reported that it did NOT leak.
Hahahahahaha!!!
Hahaha!
Ha!... um...
Today, for the first time (I know! huh?) I decided to have some tea in my special teacup. As I usually do with hagi, I rinsed it really well with warm water, then hot, and filled it with hot water to warm it and set it on the counter to wait until my tea was prepared.

So pretty... wait, what is that?

what is that, water? dripping, dripping, dripping off my cup? I'd better put it on a plate.
15 minutes later...

I decided to use the other wan. It sweated, but not too much. Pretty...

GG...
I have it in my mind to say that it is not a proper Biwa if it does not leak early on in its life.
But great pictures, and you truely did get one of the better biwa's out there.
