throwing some fun double walled vessels
eventually thinking about revisting the double walled teapot...
and more yunomi, double walled vessels
this is the natural color of greenware. this clay has a lot of organics even natural quartz and feldspar. amazing !
i threw these double walled vessels, a technique shared by an amazing ceramics meister/friend in hawaii named Daven Hee. then carved several pieces using a scalpel. my first teacher that carved was Ah Leon.

below is a 2 inch diameter, futaoki , lid rest. after i studied with ah Leon my carving drastically improved. i think i'd like to explore this amazing path in clay. smaller pieces, highly detailed ...

sharing an interesting, fun firing method of saggars.
usually saggars, lidded ceramic containers, were used to protect fired pieces in wood fire kilns from the fly ash. in this case, i used lei from a ceramics opening, recycled as combustibles in the saggar.
the colors from this 'natural' way of firing was both spontaneous and amazing.
one particular firing i did w/ jeff B, we used red bananas w/ spectacular results. on some red clay we got some gold lustre. all naturally ! no glaze. talk about wow.

Re: cory Lum (bonjiri) chadogu
sharing a new chawan that came out of the gas kiln yesterday.
after weeks of testing different glazes and clay body combinations
the new hagi influenced colors are wonderful.
the clay body also goes really well. after testing both in oxidation (sanka) and reduction (kangen), the results have been fascinating.
this red clay body has a lot of organic materials and really nice after firing. the heat seems to be insulated w/ this cool clay body.
cheers
